The prohibitive favorites coming into the tournament, Team USA has gotten off to a perfect start. Shattering records en route to an 18-0 goal differential in group play, their biggest test thus far has been Sweden, whom they dismantled with ease 2-0. Now things get serious.
On June 24 they'll take on Spain in their first game of the single-elimination knockout round. If they win, they'll take on France in the round of eight, who defeated Brazil in extra time. Spain finished Group B in second place (1-1-1, 4pts), while USA finished Group H in first place (3-0-0, 9pts).
Team USA is attempting to become the first team since Germany in 2007 to repeat as World Cup champions.

The reffing has been bad. I find decisions in the England-Cameroon game inexplicable.
Is this the team who has the player who doesn’t salute the flag, stands with Colin, etc.?
Any dudes on the field blowing away the rest the players?
Yes, you are referring to the unclassy, hating Megan Rapinoe. She is the one responsible for the worst sportsmanship behavior when running up the score against Thailand and celebrating like she won the lottery when the score was 10-0.
She so obnoxious. And so oppressed.
Hope they can avoid another yellow card for those players having one today entering the game. Interesting that Horan is not starting. Mewis will start instead now that Ertz is back.
Morgan is banged up. Still worry about the back line and goalkeeping. Spain will be a real challenge.
This game seems to be only a couple of cable channels, FS1 and NBCSN. Fox Network is not showing it.
Telemundo is showing the game, I do get it OTA and it looks like it is available in most cities.
Only the decision on the offside that erased the Cameroon goal was questionable. All the others were supported by replays.
The behavior of the Cameroon players was indefensible.
The lone exception.
I note that even the African Soccer Federation has come out saying that the Cameroon players should be punished.
I think part of the problem is we don’t get a good explanation. They do a VAR, decide a goal is allowed or not, but you don’t know exactly what they’re looking for. Offside? Foul?
One game I saw I called “penalty” as it happened, a player in the box leaning forward and the ball hitting the upper arm. The ref called it immediately too. ...then they had a VAR and called it off when it was clear it hit the arm. The TV folks tried to say she was keeping her arm at her side so it would have been “too harsh”. Baloney, she turned her body, leaning into the path of the ball and it hit her arm. Hand ball. Penalty. Again, no official explanation.
Other sports explain the review.
Good luck & Go #USA

Not a fan of VAR at all. Get the damn call right the first time.
VAR will just make refs lazier.
I wish they would at least stop the clock during VAR so at the end you are not winning 1-0 and they add on 9 minutes.
VAR should only be used to check if the ball crossed the line into the goal. That’s it.
