If sharks and sunburns dont scare you at the beach, perhaps this will: Most species of Vibrio are essentially harmless, but some are responsible for diseases like cholera, or can rarely cause flesh-eating skin infections, especially in people with weakened immune systems...
But presuming it holds up, the study could help explain a well-supported patternbeachgoers who swim in the ocean are more likely to get sick with stomach aches or ear infections soon after than those who stay on the sand. And though the bulk of the blame can be tossed on the germs (often from poop) that get into our bodies, the team suspects that ocean bacteria as a whole can make illness more likely through their effects on the skin microbiome. So be sure to shower after swimming in the ocean, and try not to get any seawater in your mouth.

And then they grow cauliflower and other colonialist vegetables.
I guess we just have to hide in our houses. Wait. Mold. Bathtub accidents. Radon. Omigod! No place is safe! Ahhhhhhhrrrggg!!!
if you get a cut in the ocean, you can get flesh eating disease- make sure you don’t have broken skin when swimming in ocean- fishermen get nasty wounds that fester badly when they get nicked by hooks, fins, & such, and get the salt water on the cuts-
Was watching Wicked Tuna- and Dave got a cut, which got infected, and they said what type of crap got into it from the ocean, but can’t remember- it swelled up terrible- was lucky he didn’t lose his arm
Liberals want everyone to be scared of everything.
(Except things we actually should be scared of).
I always thought wading in the ocean (salt water) was good for rashes and some wounds. Ive had some positive experiences doing this.
Well, it is good if it doesnt also contain bad bacteria like the examples cited.
same here
and viruses too:
Use hydrogen peroxide to clean the wounds out.
Wear a water resistant sunscreen.
Colonial veggies!!!
Nice and fresh!
I love them!
The squash in my garden is far more productive and useful than that nut.
Wait. Mold.
I just had Gorgonzola and crackers for lunch, it was delicious!
Am I doomed?
Use hydrogen peroxide to clean the wounds out....
I’ve had many skin surgeries and the nurses have told me multiple times to never to use hydrogen peroxide to clean the wound out.
It is fine for cleaning blood up and taking it off your clothes but it kills the cells closest to the wound that will be among the first to mend to each other, so that it really slows down the healing process.
Diluted iodine is really best for killing the germs in the wound.

I always check the credentials of those doing studies. I often find they have no credentials and are idiotic youngsters trying to play smart.
I also learned that quick first aid for a cut while fishing is to urinate on the wound. ..
Well it should be sterile. Hopefully.
I have seen deck hands use straight bleach.

I used to get all scratched up from blackberrys and other thorns. I’d go to the ocean take a swim and things were much better afterwords. If I went into the house and took a freshwater shower with soap, the cuts would last a very long time. Can I suggest, fake news? Even though I know that there are millions of bacteria and virus’ in ocean water.

Have heard of and used that technique for sea urchin spine attacks.
The alternative was cash only $$$ at the local hospital.
