These students will read works by authors ranging from Plato and Herbert Marcuse to Tlingit writers. The point is to develop and flex a more rigorous political imagination, according to one course syllabus. They will take on 15 to 20 hours a week of manual labor in Sitka, and set their groups rules on everything from curfews to cellphones. Last summers cohort discouraged the use of phones during class and service hours and ordered everyone to turn off the internet at 10 p.m.

This showed up in my news feed so I glanced at it and the excerpted paragraph is the reason I chose to post it because it seems like an idea that in principle might have some merit but we know... we all know... we know without asking... we know without a shadow of a doubt... what the "rigorous political imagination" REALLY means.

Add a little PT and grinder time, and it’s boot camp.

For boot camp currently you could add in a lot of copulation and out of wedlock conceptions. We had one AIT class at Fort Eustis where 14/14 girls were pregnant before graduation from AIT.

Serious about my observations? Of course I am. Are you familiar with the rates of illegitimate births by enlisted soldiers? It’s not the military of James Webb, that’s for sure.

I love how they pretend its all about learning how to think imaginatively, when really its memorizing doctrine, like a commie madrassa.

Well, Lord knows the rigorous college is dying.

Of course there was, it was the normal response. They all got off base housing when they arrived at their new units and were put on limited duty. What other type of response would you expect?

Changes in the program that ended up with all the women pregnant. Has the military really come to this?

Wow. My unit at basic had about 160/160 not get pregnant.. Course that was back when women weren't allowed in combat arms.

Like Ancient Rome, young males are increasingly unwilling to serve in the military. There are many more parallels there.
