Fighting back tears during an emotional post-game appearance at the podium, Golden State Warriors president of basketball operations Bob Myers said he would take the blame for the Achilles injury Kevin Durant suffered during his brief Game 5 appearance.

Sportsmanship is nearly dead. Why else do some of us watch when pros shake hands or help a guy up or show concern when a player goes down then think. Hey! thats a great response. It should be the Normal Response! Sadly most times its not and the fans are the worst. IMO.
I didn't realize they changed their name.
It's a bit unusual, but it is original. I like it!
I guess they are trying to change the image of "toxic masculinity" in the NBA.
He cant really take the blame. He wasnt playing. Hes crying because his meal ticket took a dump. I feel bad that the guy is injured but he has a really nice house to go to where he can relax and recuperate and he probably has a great bed to convalesce in. He also has great doctors and pain meds and he probably doesnt drink the same scotch that us regular people drink. He will get better or he wont but either way he will have more than enough money to live well for the rest of his life. Unless he blows it.
Bob Myers is actually friends with Durant, as well with all the players on the team. The Warriors Organization is a little different than most, in that it is more like a family. I understand that the issue with the President casts a huge shadow across the Warriors...But as a basketball team, they can be poetry on the court.
Those who have seen Durant play, will acknowledge his great ability to make the shot. Last night, on the floor during his limited time he scored 3 three point baskets and a 2 pointer. He looked great on the floor.
I have seen every game this season as my wife is a huge Warriors fan. Always has been. Me...my knowledge of basketball is limited I can say. Still, watching the Warriors has been great entertainment through the years. This year was a tough one for them. Ups and downs.
Will they win the finals for a three-peat? Hard to say. The Raptors are a tough team and the referees like to call a different game than what’s happening on the court...
Just like there are a lot of New England haters out there...so is the same for Warrior haters. Its just sports.
As for Durant. Yeah...financially, he will be fine. But basketball is what he loves and what he has applied himself to do...and at the pinnacle of his abilities he is injured...an injury that is devastating for a basketball player.
If anyone actually saw Bob Myers last night, it came from his heart. He was with Durant the whole time after the injury...and like I said, they are personal friends.
Was the decision to play Durant the correct one? Obviously Kevin had the final call. He wanted to help his team mates. Not quite unlike a soldier that returns to the platoon while still injured to help out his buddies in a fire fight.
And don’t forget Kevan Loonie playing with a torn cartiledge in the clavicle. Andre finally had to tell Loonie to leave the game in the third period because he was in such pain. Evidently the injury is as such that no more damage can be done, it is just how much pain can one endure while playing. He will be back for game six.
Say what you will about the Warriors, but this team, win or loose, is taking it to the end.
I agree with that!
He was anticipating criticism, so he tried to get ahead of it, do some crying and sniveling, position himself as a sensitive guy who really cares about his players.
If this was the NHL, he’d tape it up and play.
They are meal ticket entertainment employees. Not curing cancer or risking their lives to save strangers. Big whoop that one millionaire employee got injured playing a GAME
“If this was the NHL, hed tape it up and play.”
Lawrence Taylor played with a broken ankle. Charo broke his jaw and missed a period.
Some kind of taking responsibility, “Nobody is to blame, we made the decision wbased on the collaborative recommendation of experts, but if there are Yahoos oit there wanting to point the finger in error, they can point their errant fingers at me!”
I used to be a Warriors fan myself.Back when they were in Philadelphia . . .
In fact, a Warriors player named George Dempsey stopped at our pickup game court and played with us once. He passed a ball to me once, during that game - and about the time I realized thats what was happening, the ball hit me in the face.
He was a bench player for the Warriors. Not surprised to learn that he was a decade older than me. Or that he passed on a couple of years ago . . .
NBA is like pro wrestling. Championships are predetermined. This will go the full 7 games because of the money behind the scenes and the injury is part of the story line for the amazing comeback by GS. I expect to see Durant in game 7 to further boost the story.
That’s a cool story...despite the fact the ball hit you in the face. Oops!
Yeah, I know, its all just sports. I got that and for the most part I could care less about sports. But the Durant story rose to that level of the mythic hero. Not that he is a “hero”...but...He suffered adversity (injury) and went out to help his mates and again befell injury..will he recover to slay the “dragon?”
Maybe I listen to too much Jordan Peterson.
Like Willis Reed.
Now that would fulfill the mythic hero status of Durant. Coming back for game 7.
I’m skeptical of that, but after watching the Raptors blow game 5 I really wonder.
All that's missing is that the injury was "unexpected."

It’s hard to keep that kind of guy off the court. He wanted to be out there as much as they wanted him to be playing. Like them or not, I don’t celebrate any athlete being hurt or injured. Been there, had that, hated it!
