They also own stores and service businesses claiming the same benefits.

Any group that legally avoids paying taxes to a Federal government that funds the abortion industry has my admiration.

The solution is not to tax them.

It’s to stop taxing us.

Their are a lot of Amish in my area and they do create hardship for tax paying workers in the construction field.

Their tax exempt status should not extend beyond the properties they own.

What do they cost these systems?

I doubt they claim unemployment.
I doubt they would even try to make a claim under workman’s comp.

They usually live on minimally maintained dirt roads. When they use a vehicle, it’s usually a van and they travel as a group to be more efficient so they don’t put a lot of wear and tear on the roads. Police, fire ambulance? They don’t use public schools. Guess you could say they’re very conservative.

They don’t use all these systems so they don’t feel they should have to pay for them.

“”” In addition, they normally have many children working and have child tax credits offset their income taxes. “””

How do you know they even take the child tax credit? It’s voluntary just like claiming dependents. Seen their tax returns?

They built a couple of buildings for me years ago and both were VERY well done. Wonderful people to work with. The solution is to reduce the tax burden and size of government at the same time. 1 Sam 8:10ff provides the reason all of this is happening to us.

Worker’s comp, unemployment and socialist security are all scams anyway and should be done away with. People should decide for themselves if they want to buy such things.

The government used to make enough money on tariffs to run the government. I have more government than I can afford. They use highway funds to build bike paths that no one uses. They have spent by an old count $13.4T of Social Security funds that was not theirs and blame baby boomers for the shortage.

They are exempt from the draft but were happy to have their religious freedom here while other Americans had to die for it.

If all Americans were as smart and thrifty as the Amish & Mennonites, this nation would not be $22 TRILLION in debt. It is a shame that the government can deduct such a huge chunk out of a worker’s paycheck.
If every taxpayer had to fork over a lump-sum payment for his taxes, government spending would never have reached this obscene level.

They are legitimately exempt from those taxes and taxes being the competitive difference is not a legitimate beef. Privately yes, but not politically or legally.

Social Security is not “Insurance”, you have no right to “benefits” nor claim on what you “paid in”.
SCOTUS: Heverling, Nestor et al

4029 to avoid SS taxes is a farce.
Social Security is a payroll tax spent as General Revenue.

Religious claims to avoid/control general taxes are all over the country.

Good for them. What they are doing is legal, and more power to them.

I’d like to see all Americans receive the same tax freedom someday.

We live near an Amish community and an old order Mennonite community.
Both groups use horse and buggy for transportation. They are the only ones around who work on the old tobacco barns. Problem is you have to go get them and bring them to your place and then tow their tool trailer.
Then you’ve got 5 or 6 of the foulest smelling sumbitches you’ve ever been around in your truck. All in all they’re good neighbors.

Shouldn’t the Amish tax advantage be more than offset by the use of hewn lumber, hand forged nails, manual tools, etc?
