It appears every EV manufacturer except Tesla is standardizing on the SAE J1772 CCS (Combined Charging System) plug. Just that means by 2025, doing fast charging at a commercial charging station could be almost as common as a gasoline station.

One interesting development is that the next National Electrical Code in 2020 will address bi-directional charging of EVs, homes now charge EVs but soon homes will be charged from EVs in emergency situations.

My question as well. I had a half-dozen USBs charging cables for my devices - all of 'em different.
