Don't drink and driveeven if you have Autopilot.
A 50-year-old man was spotted driving close to the car ahead of him on the A27 road. "When we came alongside, the driver appeared to have fallen asleep," the police said.
After attempting to stop the vehicle, the driver was finally woken up with the help of a siren. Earlier this year, a Tesla driver was caught on camera seemingly asleep on Autopilot in Southern California and just a month before, a Tesla Model S driver was pulled over and arrested by the California Highway Patrol after the police officers saw him seemingly sleeping at the wheel. It reportedly took 7 miles to stop the vehicle

What’s the point of an autonomous vehicle that you can’t allow to be autonomous?

I thought this was the selling point of this “auto pilot” stuff.
Get in the car, press home, car drives you home from the bar.
Isn’t that the whole idea?
It would be the only reason I would ever buy one

My sister and family live in Europe for years, mostly Belgium and Germany.
She said only an idiot drink and drive over in Europe.
A neighbor of hers was washing his car in his driveway and enjoying a beer, cops came by and the keys were in the ignition. That was all it took.
Also, she said on some holiday evenings, many of the drivers are in fact drunk.

The guy should have called an Uber and let the Tesla drive home by itself.

shouldn’t the tesla be smart enough to analyze the alcohol in the cabin air and refuse to start itself to start with?

the driverless cars are already rolling on roads doing food deliveries.
I don’t recall the laws being changed to permit driverless cars on public roads.

Whats the point of an autonomous vehicle that you cant allow to be autonomous? Im asking this question out of pure ignorance as Im still locked in the old school paradigm; drive a 2015 Silverado crewcab 6.2L 4x4. Heres my question; can the Tesla be programmed to autonomously drive itself from the starting point (example, work location) to destination (example, residence) without driver intervention? If yes, I could possibly go for that. I drive every now and then from Dallas area to Phoenix area. And, it is possible to make the drive without stopping if carrying enough fuel and bladder is large enough or maybe carrying a milk jug along. Anyway, interested in learning what Teslas capabilities are. Thanks 😊...

DAVE: Take me to Barneys, Tesla.
Tesla: Im sorry, Dave. Im afraid I cant do that.
DAVE: Whats the problem?
Tesla: I think you know what the problem is just as well as I do.
DAVE: What are you talking about, Tesla?
Tesla: I know that you’re on court supervision, this would be a violation...

That’s right. Tesla will have a fleet of thousands by 2020.
I read it in the paper.

Well, what the heck is the purpose of autopilot if you can’t use to sleep/pass out while driving...or eat a burger...or have sex...
I mean, what good is it?
