President Donald Trump accused China on Wednesday of pulling back from agreed-upon trade deal language because Beijing would rather negotiate with former Vice President Joe Biden "or one of the very weak Democrats" hoping to win the White House. Trump launched his attack in a pair of tweets that moved equities markets. "The reason for the China pullback & attempted renegotiation of the Trade Deal is the sincere HOPE that they will be able to 'negotiate' with Joe Biden or one of the very weak Democrats, and thereby continue to ripoff the United States (($500 Billion a year)) for years to come," Trump tweeted. "Guess what, that's not going to happen!"

Biden’s statements that China is nothing to worry about were embarrassing and frightening.

The Chinese Hang Seng index is now down tice as much as the US Dow index on a percentage basis since Trump announced his intent to increase tariffs. Trump’s tariff war with China reminds me of Reagan ratcheting up military spending in a military buildup with the USSR expressly to force them to keep up with us and propel their ailing economy into bankruptcy. It will hurt somewhat until the other guy dies. Then we hold a party at the funeral, shed a few false tears and run out to collect the dividends. Unfortunately we are going to have to pay $1.25 rather than $1.00 for that can opener we could have bought from China while we are waiting for the funeral hearse to drag their economic carcass away.
