A white police officer in Dallas told a police dispatcher that she shot her unarmed black neighbor in his own home, repeating 19 times on a 911 call that she mistakenly “thought it was my apartment.”
Amber Guyger, who is facing a murder charge in the September shooting of Botham Jean, is heard asking a dispatcher for police assistance and paramedics on the nearly six-minute recording, which was obtained late Monday by WFAA.
“I’m an off-duty officer, I thought I was in my apartment,” Guyger, 30, frantically told the dispatcher. “And I shot a guy thinking that he was, thinking it was my apartment.”
“You shot someone?” the dispatcher replied.
“Yes, I thought it was my apartment,” Guyer continued. “I’m ----ed!”

It is still manslaughter, which is a minimal ten years in Texas.
A murder conviction requires ‘intent’
They should go for manslaughter. Almost as much time. Much easier to convict.
I’m sure it was a mistake, but some mistakes are bigger than others. Yes, she is f***ed, alright. Like the woman who ran over those three young children who were getting on the bus. Might as well have turned the gun on herself.

I don't recall all the facts of the case, but I've tried to use my hotel keycard in the wrong room on a couple of occasions and can tell you that when you're convinced that you're in front of your own room, you first thought isn't 'gee, maybe I'm in the wrong place.' It's more like, 'why isn't my key working?'
So I can see how her explanation is entirely plausible, especially considering the recorded 911 call.
A terrible accident but she is still guilty.
So, how does a guy in your apartment become to a clear and present danger to yourself or the public?
I have been in sterile cookie-cutter apt complexes that if you’re not paying attention you can easily walk up to the wrong door.
This is now “White kills Black.” It should be some kind of unjustified unintended homicide, same as for anyone else who is not a White cop. But that’s not going to happen. It will be portrayed as “White cop kills Black.” She’s right. She’s xcrewed!

She had just left an extended shift at her police job ...something like hours.

Cop or not. If you are carrying a gun, YOU are responsible for where the bullets go and ultimately end up.

If I went to enter my home and saw a guy in the couch watching tc (noticing immediately that isn’t my couch or my tv) is turn tail and split, not shoot him.
She wouldn’t get much sympathy from me as a juror.
I can believe she thought the door was hers. I can’t believe she still thought it was her place once she walked inside.
