Deputies: Florida Man's Homemade Pipe Bomb Sails Into Neighbor's Yard
My News 13 ^ | 4/22/2019

A man in Volusia County, Florida is facing charges after deputies say he ignited a homemade pipe bomb in his back yard that rocketed into his neighbor's yard — and a video of the incident was posted on his Facebook account.

According to deputies, a woman working in her back yard at her home on Liskeard Avenue that afternoon heard a loud hissing noise and saw white smoke as an object flew into her yard. Upon examination, it appeared to be a metal pipe that had been capped at both ends.

No one was injured in the incident, though it forced the evacuation of several nearby homes.

A Volusia County bomb squad was called in, whose investigation led to a home on Montrose Avenue. There, they made contact with Green, who they said admitted he used stump remover mixed with sugar to make smoke bombs.

Deputies also said they found a video of the incident on Green's Facebook page. The video, they said, depicted Green making a pasty substance in a pot on a kitchen stove, then going outside and lighting a pipe with the substance in it. After a few seconds, the pipe rocketed away.

Green was taken to the Volusia County Branch Jail, where he posted $10,000 bail and was released.

Your honor, my client clearly didn't make a pipe bomb, but a pipe rocket.

Too slow of a powder was used.
Hodgdon H1000 is not acceptable.
Always use Pyrodex P-FFFG.

Rookie mistake.

Very true - It was a rocket rather than a bomb and the molten sugar and oxidizer mix is one of the formulas for rocket fuel, but charging him with making a bomb sounds so much better than the truth. What he really should be charged with is serious display of stupidity for launching a rocket in a neighborhood.

Stupidity doesn’t excuse from paying for the consequences of one’s actions.

Sounds like a bigger metal version of the little plastic rocket we used to make fuel for in our children’s chemistry sets...not a pipe bomb in the usual sense of the word. Fying off in random directions makes for lousy bomb, you want bombs to stay put. Imagine the frustration of a mafioso if his employees’ efforts to bomb a songbird’s car keep getting foiled because the bomb flies off the car and lands in unexpected places where the songbird isn’t. How can you get ridof witnesses with a disobedient rocket?

Putter Smith as the homosexual villian,”Mister Kidd” A great Jazz musician selected for that role by the producer who happened to be out having drinks during casting of Diamonds Are Forever and saw his band play - offered him the role right there.

"Mr Wint" was played by Bruce Glover, Crispin Glover's (George McFly) father.

The incomparable Sid Haig (Captain Spalding in House of 1000 Corpses and The Devils Rejects) also appeared in the campy prelude to the 007 comedy era (Roger Moore booooooo) Diamonds Are Forever. Terrible film. Bottom 5 of all 007 films, even with Jill St. John mincing about in a bikini throughout the movie :)

What happened to Estes rockets that all of us kids played with in the 1970’s?

Every kid dreamed of going to the moon. You ordered your rocket, built it, put in one of their engines, about 12” of fuse, light it and stand back.

Now, if you wanted to build a pipe bomb....
