That’s a cover to hide the styling.
The problem they had to fix with this car was, it was twisting the frame under acceleration. Lot’s of horses under the hood.
They like being faster and auto trans lead to less damaged parts.
GM has a patent on a clutch by wire that could be used on a mid-engine. We’ll see, but honestly, dual-clutch setups are better and used in the hottest vehicles. Protecting the engine and transmission from mistakes and abuse is probably a big factor in dc autos.
By the way, there may be a reason for the mid-engined platform: its eventual adaptability to full-electric power by the middle 2020's. The second-generation Tesla Roadster will have serious competition now.
They're thinking you are less than the 1 to 2 percent of people who want a stick. So too bad for you.
It does seem like they all are getting to look similar. It also better be comfortable.

Forget comfortable. The main complaint with Vettes is the cheap bargain bin interiors they use in sub-par GM cars.
Hard plastics, low grade interiors and cheap poorly made seats.
Ping!
A manual transmission gives you a level of control over the vehicle that’s unavailable with an automatic. I drive both and I like the sticks better.
Potosi Bolivia ...17,000 feet
Thinking working conditions at very high altitude
Pikes Peak is a 14 teener ..
The donut story at the Summit House at Pikes Peak I just looked up
They are incredible light and airy and puffy due to the altitude but if taken down to the valley they get dense and less interesting
I didnt know that and Ive driven up there around four times since the 1960s
I’m sure the performance will be stellar - but it sure is ugly.....will be the end of beautiful Vettes........
But then, I’m biased for the clean, simple and eternal beauty of certain Porsche’s - specifically the Cayman S.........
Will they call it the Corvair?
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
nailed it!
lol
And death of the Corvette brand happens with thunderous applause.
I see the resale value of C7/C8 vettes skyrocketing in the next 5yrs.
Do they make cars for guys where they made that?
Mine burned up.
[[Looks like a McLaren and a Ferrari had a kid.]]
Lol yep- doesn’t look much like a corvette at all-
My future bargain hunt for a Vette: 1969 or 1970 C3 convertible 4-speed with <40K miles on it, a 454ci , Wide Ovals, optional side pipes, A/C w/Astro ventilation, AM/FM with some decent speakers, luggage rack, fiberglass must all be in excellent shape and condition, interior very good to excellent condition...$17,000-25,000 seems fair to start.
Wasn’t there a story on the high hp version torquing the frame to point of fracture?
The front-engine ‘Vette will continue to be sold because of the price point if nothing else.
They went to mid-engine because engineers believe the performance capability of the front-engine is maxed out.
