A student at Michigan State University actually filed a bias complaint against his roommate for watching a Ben Shapiro video.
The student woke up from a nap last September and noticed his roommate watching the video, The College Fix reports. Apparently horrified by this discovery, he then filed a bias complaint with the administration.
Ben Shapiro is known for his inflammatory speech that criticizes and attacks the African American community, the students report stated. I thought hate had no place on MSUs campus yet MSU has roomed me with someone who supports hate speach [sic].
The Fix, which obtained the report through a public-records request, found that it was just one of 35 reports that were filed on MSUs Public Incident website. The system allows students and faculty to anonymously report incidents to the university for investigation.
According to The Fix, another bias report complained that a completed game of hangman had been left up in a residence hall with the word SOUTH being the final word played. In another incident, a cartoon making fun of liberals posted in a residence hall led a student to complain twice in three days.
Ive got to say as a reasonable, normal, well-adjusted person, all of this makes me very, very sad. Honestly, the proper response to seeing a cartoon that represents a point of view with which you disagree should be just to laugh it off and move on with your day. At the very least, it should be something that you can handle on your own or, if you must, with the support of some friends. You shouldnt feel the need to get the administration involved.
The game of hangman including the word SOUTH makes my head spin even more. I mean, what is so offensive about the word SOUTH? To me, it seems like one of the most innocuous words out there. In any case, Id really hate to have to be in a position to give directions to the student who filed that report.
As for the student who complained about that Shapiro video? Well, thats stupid too, but I unfortunately cant say Im surprised. After all, at this point Ive lost track of how many times students at various schools have protested his appearances. In fact, Ill never forget a column I wrote last year about a university offering counseling to its students who might be upset at even the thought of a Ben Shapiro speech.
Actual discrimination and bias are obviously terrible things, and any student who is facing these things should obviously be able to reach out to their university for help. The thing is, though, some of the things that these students reported are really the kinds of things that a mature person should be able to handle on his or her own. In trying to help its students have a comfortable college environment, MSU seems to be all but assuring that its students will have a very uncomfortable post-college one. After all, once they graduate, theyre going to see things in the real world that are far more offensive than a cartoon or speech they dont agree with and theyre going to have to know how to handle that without the help of an anonymous tattletale service. Students should always be able to seek help when they need it, but they should also be encouraged to develop the kinds of skills they are going to need to survive as independent adults.
I’m OK with sanctioning people for watching Ben Shapiro videos.
Straight out of Orwell’s 1984. Thought crime.

They sound like a bunch of fags, Jim.
“I want to file a complaint against my roommate.”
“Why is that?”
“He voted for Trump.”
“You can’t file a complaint because he supported a candidate who wasn’t your candidate. It’s a two-party system.”
“But I’m a victim.”
“No, you’re actually not.”
“I want to file a complaint against you. Your hatred of me is off the charts.”
Can you imagine what is going to happen to these snowflakes when they grow up? Even worse, if they get in leadership positions!
The future is quite dim for a lot of young people today. If they can’t handle someone having a better and different opinion now; they are really gonna be hatin’ life if the future.
Does anyone doubt that leftists will be prosecuting people for “thoughtcrimes” if they get full control in this country? (Of course, they’ve already begun in Europe...) Freedom of speech, freedom of conscience, and an open-mind are an anathema to leftism. I find a lot of leftists’ slanderous rhetoric very hateful, so we get to play this hate speech game too, right? After all, this man was basing his complaint on his own personal feelings and not on anything objective.
On the other hand, though, the free-thinking, non-indoctrinated youth will probably be better off if the university does move his roommate.
Leftists have already designated Southerners as good to descriminate against and stereotype. Hang around Northern leftists, and you will soon see. The left has several whole categories of people theyve deemed lesser, and Southerners are among them. The idea that leftists are tolerant is of course a joke. Their tolerance is extremely limited in scope.
If he cannot even SPELL “speech,” he has no business either complaining about it or being in college.
But if it had been a jihadi headchopping video, the complainer would have been expelled.
The whole concept of, "intent" as written into law is abhorrent to me. Whether Hillary "intended" to hide her communications from prying eyes is irrelevant. Whether, "hate" plays any role in assault or murder is also pure excrement.
It takes no imagination at all to see that Twitter and Fakebook are, "policing" thought crimes and that freedoms are being destroyed in the process. The snowflakes are the biggest perpetrators of outlawing dissent based on feelings.
A God given right that is protected by the 1st amendment of our Constitution. "Congress shall make no law..."
Case dismissed. Now get back to your studying sonny by.
Duh.
I can not imagine hiring any of these students into my company. They would be quivering lumps of jello on the corner inside of a week. In business, I demand initiative, progress and results. I would much rather hire a young vet who is trainable. Don’t need a melting college grad.
These are the people running the advertising and marketing agencies that spew social marxism propaganda all day long at us. They are running the creative departments and kefal offices of every corporation.
Ben Shapiro “hate speach”, SOUTH, “a cartoon making fun of liberals”.
Well, if these terrible outrages are going to “trigger” the leftist snowflakes to head for their “safe spaces”, I guess we’ll just have to ditch that whole “free speech” idea.
They will find group consensus_ship positions in the future.
I have tried to listen to his podcasts, and they irritate me. He tries too hard to seem unbiased, and it bugs me. It seems like pandering to be unbiased.
However, I could watch his debates on a stage with Leftists, especially college leftists, all day long. When he doesn’t need to be “balanced” he is a virtual conservative shredding machine for liberal ideas.
I like THAT Ben Shapiro. He has talent.
