Thanks but I don’t need Lutherans feeling sorry for me. So I guess from your post John 3:16 and your interpretation of if forms the Canon within the Canon in terms of interpretation to form Doctrine. Ok, but can you tell me where Bible says that the entire basis for Doctrine is based on John 3:16. It is a rhetorical question btw.
Is the Pope Catholic? I remember when that used to be a way of answering “yes” to a question. Now, not so much.
You are making this issue of salvation far too complicated. I thank you for making me explore more and found this: https://www.blueletterbible.org/Comm/luther_martin/Gal/Gal002.cfm
No, you are turning it into cheap grace. In fact, I can make a theological argument that any person declaring they are absolutely saved without perseverance till the end is actually a sin against the theological virtue of Hope. God’s Grace saves. We agree, Faith is necessary, yes, but even Saint Paul said Love is greater than Faith. Hope is also among those 3 virtues. Grace saves us, but faith, hope and love are all so intrinsically linked that I would argue it is you are incorrectly seperating Faith from both Love and Hope.
In Catholic Theology there 2 ways to Sin against the theological virtue of Hope, one is to believe that my sin can not be forgiven that I turn into despair and totally reject God’s Grace. The other one is thinking that God must or will save me. I probably have not put this in precise theological language (i.e. The Hope discussion) but I think in principle I am accurate.
And I have no interest in re-reading Luther. My Catholic ancestors rejected his doctrines over 500 years ago. Now the sins of the past do not transfer to today so I don’t get into polemics with modern followers of the former Father Martin Luther. His sins of schism and novel doctrine are not yours. I understand you hold them, I wish you nothing but the best. I hold fast to the Faith of the Apostles delivered to the Church and passed down through the 1500 years before Luther.
The same corruption in Luthers day is still there today.
In the words of the great philosopher the Dude Lebowski, “that’s your opinion man”
Leo X and Francis are both corrupt.
That may indeed be true, there have been some crappy Popes in history, you will never hear me say there were not. Although while you and I may agree on Francis, I don’t put Leo X in the same class as Francis. That doesn’t however negate the Faith, it actually shows despite the stupidity of men (Popes included), the Bishop of Rome is an institution that was around when the Caesars were speaking classical Latin in Rome and Italy and 2,000 years later it still exists. Great Empires and Kingdoms have risen and fallen yet The Catholic Church remains. Personally, my only explanation is Divine Providence and Grace.
