This is a Curmudgeon's Rant.
Aggravating Clichés!
1) "I want to make a difference!" Hitler, Ghengis Khan, and Pol Pot each "made a difference".
2) Sportscasters ALWAYS talking about a college player "making it to the next level", never "having a successful professional football/basketball/etc career".
3) "People of Color" I'm a person of color - slightly pinkish tan, until Summer rolls around. I've known people in India who were far, far "blacker" than any member of the Congressional Black Caucus, let alone Don Lemon or any of the "black" models in TV commercials.
How about it, Freepers? Any overworked or inane phrases that just grate on you, too?
“Literally!”
Not to put to fine a point on it, but I agree.
“reach out”
Stick a fork in this thread, it’s done.
The Grammar Peevist PING! I’ll have to come up with some quickies later. :-)
Worst offender currently?
REALLY.
It’s a virus, that word. It really infects your speech until you’re really hopelessly in its power. It really kills all other adverbs in its vicinity.
Thanks for sharing
“Speak truth to power.”
- Ugh.
“Trust me.”
- Run for the exit!
Like this may like not be like relevant to the like post but i have like come to the like conclusion that like i don’t like like.
think outside the box (people who use this stupid phrase usually dont even know where the box is)
lets do a deeper dive (another stupid fake news cliche)
take it to the next level (the next person who says this will get beaten with a shovel!!!)
were going to break this (news story) down for you (because the fake news thinks were retards)
Sammich. It bugs the hell out of me when people say or write that. The word is sandwich, dumbasses.
Speak *your* truth.
Because everyone has a different *truth.*
This is huge!
Thats a mute point
GAAHHH!!!
The word is MOOT, not mute!!! I cant believe how many of my supposedly educated coworkers misuse this saying. Most of these coworkers are very intelligent and educated engineers, I just want to smack them when they murder this phrase.
This thread is a “Real Game Changer!”
Never heard til this year. People putting together their NCAA brackets. Evidently when you pick the favorites you’re going with “the chalk”.
I didn’t think I was THAT out of the loop. When did this become a phrase?
At the end of the day.
Reach across the aisle..
