I was a few months our of the service, working as a equipment mechanic at Hughes Aircraft. That was not much of an income in SoCal.

Co-worker had a Hennessey modified Vette that he said would do 208mph , but conceded it would be closer to 200 mph with my 220 pound carcass in the passenger seat ..... 198mph that day is the fastest I’ve been on a Texas farm to market road . I think it was 2012 or newer model.... body / windows didn’t seem to be built for that speed, I thought my side window was gonna explode at that speed ....... Only Vette I’ve ever owned was the 1984 model. Was a great road trip ride !

198mph...

That’s fast enough. LOL I rode with my dad in his Plymouth Fury police cruiser. The speedo was certified to 140 on those and we buried it running down a speeder on a highway out in eastern CO. Those corn rows looked like a solid wall on each side of the two lane. That 440 Magnum could run.

Years aback I read some comparison track test of several then current high performance cars at Willow Springs racetrack in SoCal. Cannot recall all the cars, but included a Toyota Supra (the hot one) and a late model Corvette.

A rather funny comment was made about structural integrity at track speeds was the Supra feeling like it was carved out of asolid ingot of metal, and the Corvette feeling like a collection of parts in flying in close formation.

Frame twisting sounds like GM still does not have structural integrity mastered.

2000 Porsche 911 Carrera I paid 22,000 for in 2008. Only 300 bhp but she’d do this as I documented on interstate 840 years ago

my little brother had a Z-1 lingenfelter super charged monster.....I thought it was squirrely as hell....and the cockpit felt like a tomb....I’m six five..too tight and poor visibility

Agree ..... the only one I’ve owned was as stated the 84 model and stayed pretty much within the lines. It’s ride was harsh even when roads were good . Lots of gremlins and repairs back then. Hope yer well , Stay Safe !

198 is faster than I’ve ever been on terra firma

I went 300 kph on the autobahn near Stuttgart in 88 in a Ruf tuned 928S4 (rented in Frankfurt) with my preggers Brasilian wife ...she was asleep...she woke up and man she let me have it

My little brothers infamous lingenfelter would crest 200 a bit...he did that on a vacant interstate in 2000 with my oldest daughter then 21 riding shotgun...praying with her head tween her knees....and she ain’t super religious

My most exciting high speed is two instances:

My 1984 GPZ triple bored over and mikunis and yoshi hand blown pipe and racing slick and wheelie bar and of course NO2 injection

Old airstrip..a 9 second ET bike..a screamer ....somewhere north of 175 when I rolled her out past the quarter mile

Bikes nowadays easy run mid 200s if you got the cash

I saw some guy in Istanbul on the famous bridge running a Kawasaki factory race bike at 400 kph in 26 seconds

My dad had been a fighter jock

He would take his Duke up with me and fly on the deck on the Mississippi River buzzing big barges tug pilothouses at insane speeds...exciting as well

I drive a 4Runner now, and suppress my urges to try one of the current liter bikes.

Like what I read about millennials and STDs: See a hot young chick, you want to hit it, but you are afraid of the consequences.
