Stupid idea. This sounds like a judge who may be expecting to feel sympathetic toward this Congolese troublemaker.
“I climbed where you climbed. I walked your path, and I felt your pain!”

Is the judge an Obama appointee and is there any risk of a fatal fall from that height?

Comedy writers are at a disadvantage
when real life is pegged on absurd.

I don’t want to be in the courtroom if this judge is ever taking on the task of sentencing someone convicted of indecent exposure.

Welp, it looks like the climber found a liberal judge and is sure to get off.

Feel free to ping me later if I’m wrong.

Some people have no idea how twisted and leftist these judges are.

Stupid. Just deport the idiot woman back to her home in Africa. Or, make it simpler, ten years jail with no parole and then deport, or voluntarily deport with no return. Or, maybe the judge is going to drag her up there, then toss her off.

From later in the linked article:

Gorenstein, in an order entered Wednesday, said he wanted to visit the statue "to better appreciate the risks or hazards created by defendant's conduct." "Additionally, if it were deemed possible and safe, the Court would like a ladder to be made available so the Court [...] can view, while remaining on the ladder, the surface of the area where the defendant was situated," the order read.

Doesn't seem unreasonable. The Judge merely wishes to view the crime-scene - not re-enact the crime.

Why can't we just have judges that follow the law? She was criminally trespassing and put people in danger. Slam the gavel and send her to prison. I don't have to understand more and neither does he.

Its like someone caught shoplifting and the judge is consumed by what was stolen. If it was $100 of steak or a $100 watch,.....it's shoplifting!

Giuliani appointed him to NYC Criminal Court in 1998. He was appointed to his present position in March 2001, so must be Bush.

Ok lawyer question time

Gabriel Gorenstein is chief federal magistrate judge for the southern district of New York

Why is he hearing a criminal case (sentencing since she was found guilty)

Don’t magistrates usually do hearings and arraignments and bonds instead of trials and sentencings

Maybe in federal court they can handle less serious offense trials...guessing

.....The judge merely wants to visit the crime scene...

I too think that objective is reasonable although one would think the insight being sought could have been obtained without taking actions that look like there is a ‘message’ attached to them.
