I never heard a word about this until watching the WGC-Mexico Championship today.

Apparently Kuchar's regular caddy wasn't available so he had to rely on a local caddy for the tournament. After winning the tournament and the $1,296,000 prize money, he only gave his caddy $5,000 as opposed to the 10% normally given to his and the regular pro tour caddies........

Kuchar is going to have a long time living down this major faux pas on his part.

Kuchar’s a good guy. He’ll get needled about it forever, but it’s not going to hurt him.

I’ve read that he’s one of the best at verbal dueling with other players.

Agreed, and he could have given more once he won. From what I understand, there was an agreement of 1K if cut was missed, 2k if cut is made, 3k if top 20, 4k for top 10..So he won and gave 1k over what the agreement was. Granted, Kuchar could have been more generous, but some people just aren't wired to see beyond what their agreement was. I bet, at the time, Kuchar thought he was doing the right thing; his mistake was in trying to explain they had an agreement in place when he should have realized the media was gonna take the poor mistreated caddy's side.

Being a local familiar with the course, the caddy might well have given Kuchar more than a little advantage.

He should get at least the usual ten percent.

His regular caddy couldn’t make it so he offered a local ten times the going rate and then won. The caddy had no claim to the winnings.

He paid him $5,000 when he should have paid the normal 10% of the winnings or $12,960 and he’s going to pay him $50,000 more. Who’s his accountant? I don’t get it...
