A car driven by Syracuse University men's basketball coach Jim Boeheim struck and killed a man on an interstate in central New York late Wednesday night, police said.
Jorge Jimenez, 51, was in a car with three others when the vehicle crashed into a guardrail on Interstate 690 near Thompson Road around 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Syracuse police said.
Jimenez got out of his car and Boeheim, trying to avoid the damaged car, fatally struck Jimenez, who was later pronounced dead at a local hospital, police said.
Boeheim, 74, is cooperating with investigators and passed field sobriety tests, officials said.

Yes. Tragic. I’ve watched a lot of crash videos on youtube. When a car comes to a stop on the freeway it is not uncommon for following cars to join in the melee. And if he passed a sobriety test, he will almost certainly not be charged unless they can show he was speeding. He may want to wipe his car’s OBD.
I wonder what caused the car to crash into the guardrail. I hardly ever do that.
There’s an interchange/cloverleaf in that area. Bet traffic cams, too.
Well not since last time at least :o)
On or near a roadway is a very dangerous place to be a pedestrian, especially at the scene of any vehicle collision.
Also, horrible weather last night, lots of mixed precip. Possibly what caused the car the victim was in to crash.
There are pedestrians who wander all over the road without watching for traffic. On local roads, during the day, motorists can usually avoid them. On highways, at night, that can be fatal.
Most likely increment weather. Snow, rain, freezing rain, ice. Loss of traction/control.

“I’ll be right with you officer. Just as soon as I unhook my battery for....uh...safety reasons. Yeah, that’s it, safety reasons.”
I remember seeing an accident that involved a car sliding on ice sideways at slow speed until it came to rest against the concrete jersey barrier. The passengers got out of the car to inspect it for damage. I saw a semi-truck and trailer having the same problems and it slid towards the car. One of the passengers dove over the barrier to avoid getting squished by the truck. Only problem was it a was on an overpass crossing the river and that person died from the fall/drowning.
This was on a super-elevated (high banked) curve and the ice storm made it nearly impossible to stay on the road at such slow speed. The only way I made it through was by staying as far right and as high on the banking that I could.

Light freezing rain 11pm last nite in Syracuse. Friends say he does not drink alcohol.
Wow, how horrible. It sounds like a pure accident, but Boeheim is going to have to live with it for the rest of his life.
You hardly ever crash into guard rails? That's good.
Orange man bad?
Very tragic.
Even if Boeheim was totally in the right, Boeheim Will suffer too.

Very sad. When I read this news this morning, I couldn’t believe my eyes. From what I’ve read, Boeheim is a decent man. My prayers are with him, his family and the deceased man’s family.
It was TERRIBLE conditions last night. It was sleet and freezing rain.

You can see that the 690 looks like a sheet of ice.
