Concur with the recommendation for Alia Battle Angel. Good movie. Lots of heart. Great acting. CGI is top-notch. I found nothing objectionable about it at all.
That is how the old studios did it. It worked.
Jennifer Lawrence would still have her box office clout under such a system.
I know no one excited about this one.. marvel has been pushing this character for years in comics and no one cares either.
It will get a lot of sales, but I think a lot will go just for continuity sake. Since she will be the big save in the next avengers.
I suspect it wont hit Disney/marvels desired numbers
Conservatives "pounce" ...

I hate most of these superhero movies and I'd probably hate this one.
But this is marketing strategy more than anything else. Of course they're going to have female superheroes, and Black and Asian and Hispanic superheros.
If you really loved Captain Marvel in the original incarnation, you've got a right to be angry, but how many people really loved Captain Marvel?
You are not generally mistaken, but I think this movie will be a major exception:
1. Direct precursor to Avengers Endgame.
2. Captain Marvel to be crucial figure in Endgame.
3. Nick Fury returns in a non-cameo role.
4. Phil Coulson returns to the MCU.
5. Post-credit scene(s).
These are all catnip to fanboys. Some will go multiple times just for #5.
Fawcett (Billy Batson & Captain Marvel, a.k.a. DC Shazam) or Marvel (Mar-Vell)?
I once owned Marvel Super-Heroes #s 12 & 13 - the debuts of Mar-Vell and Carol Danvers - and I also owned Captain Marvel #1, and Ms. Marvel #1.
Carol Danvers has been in the story-line since 1968 (fifty years!), and more overall than Mar-Vell, who died.
I am sick of the leftist propaganda, and will probably be done with Disney/Marvel after Endgame, but to be accurate:
A female Captain Marvel is not a recent contrivance, and Carol Danvers, with USAF & Kree military training, and with her long experience with Kree powers, is not a classic Mary Sue.
Excellent point, but leftist SOP.
1) Captain Marvel is a C-list character that has no real following
2) So far the previews have shown Brie Larson to have the personality of an exceptionally stoic potted plant. Absolutely no charisma. Your mileage may vary, you or others might have found her charming. But for many who didn't care about the character in the first place having a charasmatic lead is important (see Black Panther). She so far hasn't convinced many.
3) I don't know that people are hoping to see all of their favorite heroes hopeless and defeated only to be rescued by some bit character throwing around some deus ex-machina salvation. Maybe they'll allow the other heroes to maintain their dignity but Samuel L Jackson has implied that they are all toast but Capt Marvel, the most powerful hero in the universe, saves them all through time travel. Come on.
I guess we'll see in a month or so.
I’ve often wondered when females like Larson throw out the white-male card, nobody comes back and criticizes her for being white (and blonde, for that matter).
How can you play the anti-white card while being white yourself?
Disney is as much (or more) about the parks as it is about the movies.
They are planning a Star Wars park (which I suspect will also be Marvel heavy). They need female characters to attract girls to the parks. Hence we have Rey and Captain Marvel force into the movies to establish characters young girls can follow.
That’s just basic “girl power” nonsense that’s prevalent everywhere now. Larson herself has gone off the reservation trying to alienate as many people as possible with her “wokeness.” There’s no way Disney is approving that with one of their flagship properties.
Rey isnt a bad Character.. though the last movie was crap.
Captain a marvel however is just a forced craptastic character. The SJW folks at Marvel have been trying for years to take a second/third tier supporting character and try to turn her into some bad ass bitch... to pander to the strong women, duct tape boob dyke crowd and it doesnt work. No one cares, but they keep pushing her on the fan base... not working in the comics and while I am sure folks will go see the movie because of their desire for continuity, I personally know no one chomping at the bit to see this movie.
If it wasnt part of the larger universe it would probably be a bomb, but since its not It will do fine.
Marvel/Disney has been pushing this character for years and keep trying to force her into top tier and shes just not there. The character has zero depth, and never will. Trying to make her THE badass of marvel is stupid... but they are going to keep pushing it no matter how much the audience keeps rejecting it.
I’m guessing Captain Marvel is a chick, presumably played by this inclusive Brie person, since I don’t really follow Marvel much.
What you did . . . I see it!
