It may have been forced migration, but they were not slaves until 1655.

At least they were WANTED here in US. My ancestors, Cherokee, were badly mistreated. Trail of Tears, etc. My great grandma was 1/2 Cherokee and was never considered human, never allowed to vote. That new law came after she passed away. Mary Ann Hargrove was her name.

Is it forced migration? I thought it was the expansion of the slave trade from Africa to the North American continent. The slave trade was prospering in Africa for eons.

Meanwhile, the Arab slave trade of blacks began in the ~9th Century.
Most of the slaves who “migrated” did not come to the United States at all. Went farther south.
Only 400 years? They were being dragged out of Africa into the Middle East for the last three thousand years.
Of course, the ones taking them at that time had the males castrated. That is why you find many mentions of them in ancient histories but major tribes of descendants of former slaves in the ME.
It is important to correctly understand the history of slavery in America but it is equally important to correctly understand the history of how America abolished slavery.
We should celebrate the fact that America abolished slavery forever in less than 80 years.
Those first Blacks were indentured servants, not slaves.
