She wasn’t breathing. He didn’t know CPR. Then he recalled an old episode of ‘The Office.’

When it came time to save a life, the mechanic turned to the lessons of Michael Scott and Dwight Schrute.
Cross Scott, a tire shop technician, was test driving a customers vehicle on Jan. 11 when he saw a peculiar thing: a sedan pulled over, its hazard lights blinking, according to the Arizona Daily Star. He got out to inspect the vehicle.
There was a woman inside who appeared unconscious as the car crept forward, he told the newspaper. He stuck a rock under the wheel and used another to smash a window, and two women who pulled over dialed 911.
He checked for a pulse. Nothing. Help could be minutes away. He had to act.
But there was one problem. Ive never prepared myself for CPR in my life, Scott, 21, told the Star. I had no idea what I was doing."
Well, thats not entirely true. He had seen Season 5, episode 14 of The Office.
In a classic scene from the American TV series, Dunder Mifflin regional manager Michael Scott acknowledges his leadership style may have led to a heart attack, and, fearing future emergencies, he organizes CPR training for his employees. When he thrusts too fast on the practice dummy, the instructor tells him to sync his rhythm with a well-known disco hit.

I just did my CPR refresher yesterday and was using Staying Alive to help keep my rhythm. Another song that works but you don’t want to use out loud is Another One Bites the Dust.

That was a funny episode. I hope he skipped the part where Dwight made a Hannibal Lecter mask from the dummy’s face...

When I dropped dead (no pulse or respiration) on the basketball court in late November one of the guys started chest compressions while another called 911. First aid arrived and shocked me within five or six minutes and I’m here to tell about it, thank God.
Glad for this lady and the young man who took the initiative to try what he’d seen.

Most states have laws protecting a Good Samaritan, in case he accidentally bruised her ribs or broke her sternum.
It’s good to learn something from every part of your life.

A few months ago my husband went into anaphylactic shock. My son was there and couldn’t find a pulse nor breath. He did CPR and then rescue breathing, my husband regained consciousness and the problem was resolved.
Later that night when he was recounting what happened to his wife and daughter who are both Red Cross certified and they asked when he had learned CPR and he said, “I’ve seen it on TV.”

"A good trick is to pump to the tune of Stayin' Alive by the Bee Gees, she explains, because at around 100 beats a minute, it matches the recommended tempo to perform chest compression on a patient."

Great story.
I will critique the writer for this sentence: “The memory was seared into Cross Scotts memory”
For some reason everyone is using this “seared into” in their writing these days. It’s become ridiculous.

Yet your family would miss you.
But that's quite a "rebound." What was the cause?

The only instructions on CPR I recall seeing (inadvertently) was by Dr. Maurice S. Rawlings giving instructions in the video "
To Hell and back " (bottom of page), but it focused on checking for pulse and and an obstructed airway and "then after the 2 quick breaths, 2 inches above the xiphoid, either part of the breastbone, diaphragm, lower part of the breast bone, you plant the heal of one hand, supplemented with the heel of the other" but left out the repeated aspect of chest compressions, which your video somewhat supplemented.
