COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - The man known as Mr. Seafood took to Facebook to show that despite his business being broken into, that won’t stop his compassionate spirit to forgive the man who committed the crime.

Kevin Scott, the owner of Mr. Seafood #1 in Columbia says his restaurant on Two Notch Road was broken into overnight on Jan. 13. He’s been in business in that location since July 2017...

“God inspired me,” Scott said. “I talked to the guy and he said he did it to feed his family, and his story didn’t seem dishonest to me. He apologized and offered to work to pay off what he stole, but I don’t want that. I just don’t want him committing crimes.” ...

He calls the police and says he’s not pressing charges but that’s not really up to him. If someone commits a crime they can be prosecuted. However, the authorities can decide not to.

Doesn’t sound like it in this case. More of a God moment.

Enabling idiots give money to panhandlers with signs.

Something fishy about that guy.

I agree. Bit of a harsh assessment, sparklite. As has been pointed out, it’s the District Attorney, not the victim, who decides whether there will be a prosecution. Forgiving those who wrong you.. now let’s see, where have I heard that recommended before?

I thought it was a kid.

If the owner asked the guy to work there without pay to make up the damages and the guy agreed, I would be all on board with this. The power of forgivness is great.

But if he is just letting the guy go, he is likely to view it as weakness and that he got over on one.

forgiveness is important- however so isn’t responsible sensibility- We can forgive someone, but that doesn’t mean we ever have to trust them again- We can forgive someone while not allowing them to continue wrecking our lives and the lives of our families by allowing them to continue to come over and abuse us- As post number 2 says- forgiveness does NOT mean we enable their continuing bad behavior

You can forgive the perp AFTER he is in prison.

Forgive him at the Sentencing Hearing.

Then it’s up to the Judge.

I prefer what Admiral Chegwidden said in JAG:

Admiral Chegwidden: I like you, son. Probably gonna hang you, but I like you.

Christian forgiveness is a virtue, but it should not be cheapened when it is unearned. Even God requires true repentance for forgiveness of sins. The man should prove (perhaps by working to pay off what he stole) that he is taking responsibility for his crime. Showing he is taking responsibility would help ensure he does not commit more crimes.

First of all, it was not a robbery, it was a burglary. The DA will likely not press charges if the owner decides not to press charges because the principal element of a burglary is a trespass.

As far as forgiveness is concerned the owner should be praised for showing Christian virtue. The Lord’s Prayer calls for us to forgive those who “trespass” against us as a condition that God will forgive your own trespasses.

The man no longer owes a debt to the owner. However he does owe a debt to society. It will be up to the DA to prosecute. I’m betting they cut him a deal for misdemeanor trespass.

Let’s see if it results in rehabilitation or recidivism.

I know where that is. Smack dab between my mom’s condo and my house.

I don’t drive there after dark. I’d rather drive 15 minutes out of my way go there.

That’s about it Doug- a Christian can forgive a criminal for murdering one of their family, however, the Christian will also make it known beyond a shadow of a doubt that IF the criminal breaks in and tries it a second time, they will be, if possible, taken care of with lethal force- EVERYONE has a duty to protect their family- even Christians- forgiveness does NOT mean we shirk our duty to protect our family!
