Father of the modern pit stop. I remember as a little kid watching with amazement at how fast their pit crew was. Like locusts descending on a field of crops. All choreographed for efficiency proving that races can be won or lost in the pits.
RIP

IIRC They were also the 1st to record Pit Stops to improve them.

Yes. Like football footage is used to improve play and correct mistakes after a game.

It always amazed Me to watch the older Pit Stops when they still used a 4 way Lug Wrench. And had to pull off the Gas Cap for Fueling.

And they drove actual “stock” autos, not the current RC car bodies on a standardized underframe.

He is going to the great NASCAR race in the sky. Wood Brothers is the oldest race team in NASCAR. #21 driven by Paul Menard...

Thanks for the Ping. I was a Nascar tire changer once when I worked in the parts department at the local Chevrolet dealer. This guy, Harold Hardesty, from Medford Ore rolled into the service department looking for sponsor money and two tire changers so myself and a mechanic were recruited and yes, we used a 4 way lug wrench to do the job. Harold finished 7th out of 25 cars. It was 1956 at Redwood Acres in Eureka Ca and you can look it up on line. The Kiefhoffer (sp) Chryslers dominated in that era. The last I heard of Harold he had dementia..
