Heh, if NPR had a single mentally competent reporter, they could have shown Boulder to be the corrupt village that it is. Police Chief? Right out of the Keystone cops. We’ll never know what really happened, save for the fact that the police investigation was a farce of epic proportions.

But, since Boulder was the model for South Park’s “Smug Alrert”, what more could we expect.

I can’t find it, but recall whoever played the father capturing well the horrified look he always seemed to have in front of the cameras.

Early on, after botching the crime scene, the police focused on the Ramsey family instead of applying the textbook approach of checking out nearby pedophiles and burglars. Years later, as suspicions against the family never quite gelled into a case, new investigators kept finding plausible suspects nearby who had never been checked out and eliminated. The best surmise is that one of them seized an opportunity and killed Jon Benet.

For those skeptical of this reading of the evidence, run your home address through one of those search engines that show all the registered sex offenders living nearby. Most people easily have at least a dozen or so living within a mile -- and will then wonder if their level of home security is adequate to the risk.
