Kaitlyn Lee, an 11-year-old runner from Huntsville, Alabama, started small when she first began raising money to help children with cancer.
It began when she was just 7 years old. Her first goal was to raise $1,000, which she set in July 2015 and reached by October. After Lee reached that, she wanted to continue fundraising and set goal milestones of $10,000 and $15,000. When she met those by January and March of 2017 respectively, she set a goal of $25,000, which she reached by September of 2017.
Then, she decided to double down and aim for $50,000 in donations. She knew that was a lofty goal, so she pledged to shave her head when she reached her mark.
This month, she got the final donations she needed, and she will shave off her long locks on January 5, 2019all in her continued effort help children in need through her running.
Kaitlyn genuinely has a huge heart, her mother, Nina Lee, said. As a mom, I should be the one teaching her to be compassionate and caring, but I feel like she teaches me.
Kaitlyns love for running started with a Color Run 5K when she was only 4 years old. She walked and ran the whole race instead of staying in the stroller as her mother pushed and ran alongside her older sister. After that, Kaitlyn was hooked and kept asking her mom to come along on other races.
They did all the races they could, including Halloween-themed races and Christmas 5Ks. Eventually, she learned how to pace herself and was ready to tackle longer distances. At 7, she did her first 10Kthe Cotton Row Run in Huntsville, Alabama.

Snowflakes are triggered.
Pffft. Aptly named as H’ville WAS mostly cotton fields and small town industry before NASA came around.
And my gandmother picked cotton. She wasn’t “black”, either.
Snowflakes are not rational, thus their name.
(((”Cotton Row Run”
Snowflakes are triggered.)))
LOL - thanks, I needed a laugh
Amazing little girl, I was I had half her gumption!
Maybe she is amazing but she should be doing what 11 year olds do. It’ll be interesting to see where she’s at when she’s 18 and no longer cute. What tricks will she pull to reach bigger financial goals in her fundraising.
She’s being indoctrinated early and loosing precious childhood adventures.
