That’s funny because this also happened last night in NYC at the ConEd plant.

No one in the news is finding this odd? Two plants transformers explode? Is this typical with wind?

Congress should be cancelling the “Congressional Black Caucus” for being overwhelmingly black.

And, the NFL should be cancelling all their games for having overwhelmingly black players.

But, the true answer to the “Women’s March” should be that, all white women stay away from the parade, marchers and viewers alike. Let’s see what the organizers do then.

I drove west through that weather front in Louisiana yesterday. Non-stop tornado and severe weather alerts on my cell phone for 2+ hours. Finally drove out the back side of the line of storms near Alexandria in central LA - was clear and sunny thereafter.

I read somewhere that a well-placed rifle shot could cause a transformer to explode. The point of that article was that a couple of terrorists with rifles could cause a bit of a disruption.

I’m not saying it happened here. Just making a side comment.

A series of transformers on telephone poles blew one night in a neighborhood a mile or so away when I was a kid. Scared the crap out of me and my friends.

The winds were pretty bad at the time.

Not as easy as that sounds. There is a lot of redundancy and resiliency in the grid. You could do some damage with a rifle and knew what to shot, but other than damaging that expensive piece of equipment, not much will happen. Utilities have spent a fortune protecting substations since the attack on the Metcalf substation in San Jose. The shooters were there for around 15 minutes and fired over 100 rounds. I think $10,000,000 in damages, and not a single customer lost power. Just saying. Now if you had an EMP device, might be different.

Two totally unrelated incidents.

https://www.engineeringworldchannel.com/transformer-failure/

The issue in new york appears to be equipment failure, and the blue glow is from having anywhere between 345kV to 800kV grounding out.

The storm related failures is from trees knocking down the lines

Exploding transformers are another gift to us by the enviro wackos.

When PCB were banned, transformers had to switch to petroleum based oil as the insulating/cooling media.

If they are not meticulously maintained and religiously tested, they can build up an excess of acetylene, thus creating large highly combustible bomb with 500 KV of electricity running through it.

Every time one of these things blows it just pisses me off.

Coincidentally, the latest Transformers movie also bombed.
