Ring Out, Solstice Bells

Posted on 12/23/2018 1:48:40 PM PST by Da_Shrimp

Sorry I meant to post this a couple of days ago, but Pani Shirmpska has been ill.

Anyway, enjoy:

Jethro Tull - Ring Out Solstice bells 1976

Now is the solstice of the year
Winter is the glad song that you hear
Seven maids move in seven time
Have the lads up ready in a line

Ring out these bells
Ring out, ring solstice bells
Ring solstice bells

Join together 'neath the mistletoe,
By the holy oak whereon it grows
Seven druids dance in seven time
Sing the song the bells call, loudly chiming

Ring out these bells
Ring out, ring solstice bells
Ring solstice bells

Ring out, ring out the solstice bells
Ring out, ring out the solstice bells

Praise be to the distant sister sun,
Joyful as the silver planets run
Seven maids move in seven time
Sing the song the bells call, loudly chiming

Ring out these bells
Ring out, ring solstice bells
Ring solstice bells
Ring on, ring out
Ring on, ring out
Ring on, ring out
Ring on, ring out

Thanks Da_Shrimp! The EP version had Christmas Song (from earlier in Tull's career), along with "March, the Mad Scientist", and "Pan Dance", great stuff!

That was a blast from the past. Thanks.

Not one of favorite Tull tunes, but it’s very much Jethro Tull.

‘Songs From the Wood’ is my favourite JT album. This isn’t the best track, but it’s wonderful for this time of year!

It’s a great album. I also liked Thick as a Brick.

Is “seven maids” a reference to the Seven Sisters of the Pleiades?

Very cool. New to me, although I am a fan. Thanks so much for sharing this :)

I'm not sure! It may be - it makes sense.

A pleasure. One of my favourite songs for this time of year.
