Newark. Less congestion than LGA and there’s rail service into NYC.
Allow me to give you a warm, new york welcome.
WELCOME TO NEW YORK!!!! :-)
Now get out.
lol! I think. :)
Take a cab ? For 7 hours ?
There is a significant chance you WILL DIE if you fly into either of these airports.
LaGuardia is equipped with a 20 foot long runway. I have no idea how planes land or take off from there. Seriously, they have the shortest runways anywhere. Planes go into the drink all the time there.
In Newark you’ll die if you leave the concours. Funny story about me in Newark...
I pulled my knife and lunged at 2 guys who pinned me down against my car . I was in the police department parking lot.
Newark should be nuked from orbit.
JFK is where you want to fly into. Or if you want to take a ride after the airport and have the best experience, try Newburgh.(Stewart international).
If you REALLY want a good experience, fly into the Westchester County airport.
He might be coming in from Halifax, NS.
Eat pizza while there. Someone here will tell you the best place(s).
I will admit I had a fairly nice time there last summer. Fascinating place on the whole. My feet still ache!
However, I have no idea how on Earth those people live with the massive piles of garage on each side of the street, and the incessant honking.
Skip those busy overrated airports. Get Capt. Sullenberger to land you in the scenic Hudson River. Take the ferry cruise up to the boat dock and you’re good.
As a New Yorker I avoid LaGuadia at all costs. Difficult to get to, confusing. Newark has easy connections to NYC by train or Uber.
The Circle Line Tour is a boat ride around entire the Manhattan island. Interesting, fun, and a very relaxed way to see the outskirts of the city. I always took visitors on it and they loved it.
Newark Airport regularly has one of the worst on-time performances of any airport in the U.S., but it's very convenient for anyone traveling to Manhattan. For on-time performance, the biggest problem in this region isn't the airports -- it's the crowded airspace. That's why it's so hard to maintain on-time flight schedules. One minor disruption throws the whole system into chaos.
If you want to see live music in the evening, say, in Greenwich Village; go to the corner of LaGuardia and Bleecker. There are 5 or more places in a row there including the Poisson Rouge with live music.
If you want to get a good view of the Statue of Liberty for free, just take the Staten Island Ferry... it's free and goes right by it.
Oh, and don't miss Little Italy - right across the street from Chinatown on Mulberry Street.
Have fun!
I’d say Newark is safer in bad weather...ymmv
EWR is your best bet try to sit in the left side of the cabin and you’ll get a fantastic view of the NYC skyline from low altitude during the approach to land (if the weather cooperates and the two runways are using the north to south approach which is usual).
Day or night you get a terrific view of the city, Hudson river and the Statue of Liberty from less than ten air miles.
I’ve done this hundreds of times and it amazes me always.
If youre not staying with those folks, consider the Best Western Robert Trent in Newark. Half a mile from Newark Penn Station and you get a perfectly decent room for about 125. You cant touch that in Manhattan. You can take the PATH Train from the station to WTC station. Only takes about 15 minutes
The Circle Line is a lot of fun. That's a boat trip that goes completely around Manhattan on a double deck boat, with someone on the PA system describing the sights. There is the Bronx Zoo, which is magnificent, and the NY Botanical Gardens right across the street. They have trams for the tired if you are too pooped to walk around the extensive acres. There is the wonderful Museum of Natural History, Moma art museum, various other art museums, Museum of the Moving Image, etc. Long Island has Jones Beach, Sagamore Hill, and a couple other terrific nature preserves. You can go whale watching in the Rockaways. Last summer, I saw 2 humpback whales and a great white shark! And you'll have to look up all the myriad of museums, of which there are scads. I can also recommend Ellis Island, where our grandparents came into the U.S. You get there on a fun ride on the Staten Island Ferry. Most of all, just enjoy yourself and be situationally aware.
We are staying at the Navy Lodge on Staten Island(I am Retired US Navy)($110 a night).
Depending upon when you arrive, from January there are seal watching tours in New York Harbor these days - if you like wildlife spotting.

The one drawback of Staten Island is that if you want to tour Manhattan, you either drive or take the ferry to Manhattan and then take the subway out of South Ferry station. Personally, I'd take the ferry.
