Why Christmas is bad for the environment and what you can do about it.

Christmas is a time of celebration, but once the party's over, plenty of garbage is hauled to the curb. Environmental group Zero Waste Canada estimates that from mid-November to mid-January, the average Canadian generates about 25 per cent more trash than during the rest of the year. The reason: people buy more stuff over the holidays, and a lot of it — from shiny wrapping paper to glittery cards — typically can't go in your recycling blue bin, so it's destined for the landfill. To help Canadians celebrate a greener Christmas this year, here are some of the season's worst offenders and tips for cutting down that holiday trash. Beware of slick gift wrap To avoid unnecessary waste, opt for the plainest wrapping paper. Different materials generally need to be separated before recycling, so any gift wrap involving foil, laminated or metallic coating or sparkles will likely be rejected by your blue bin program. "Even though it's made of paper, because there's this other coating, whether it be plastic, whether it be wax, it kind of messes up [the recycling process]," said Calvin Lakhan, a research scientist at York University in Toronto. While metallic wrapper paper has a special shine, it's bad for the environment. (CBC) Blue box programs also generally don't want tinsel or gift leftovers such as bows, ribbons, cellophane and tape because these items are made of materials that are difficult to recycle. On top of that, ribbons and tinsel are a recycling facility's worst nightmare because they can get stuck in the sorting machines. "It will get literally jammed inside of the wheels and then it causes massive disruptions to the system," said Lakhan.

What a joy-less, soul-less group of people. This Christmas, why don't we all just huddle in the dark and eat dirt. Anything less will offend the Enviro-nazis

“Sophie Jacazio in Toronto cuts down on gift wrapping garbage by giving “experiential” presents to many family members and friends, such as tickets to an exhibit or a night out together.”

Experimental, huh?

I read CHEAP.

This is what happens when you turn progressive. You are angry, bitter, and hate everyone and think that everyone hates you.

These people are just insane. How does one live flitting from outrage to outrage?

In our family of six, at best, we have a single trash bag of wrapping paper and packaging.

Newsflash: It all rots eventually.

I’m surprised she didn’t say to make a donation in their name to some radical environazi group. Yea, that’ll fill you with yuletide joy and make you don your coat and go a wassailing.

Solution: import millions more people.

Why liberals are bad for the environment: see the after effects of Occupy Wall Street and all their trash...

"opt for the plainest wrapping paper."

Preferably something colorless and depressing. The gift itself should be equally depressing: a dried leaf, a dead insect, or some other reminder of life's inevitable end.

They will leave no stone unturned, no holiday untouched and no fun to be had.

These people can find misery in anything and everything.

But then they are liberals. They are by definition, jealous and hateful of the joy other people experience in life.

They've got to be the most miserable souls on earth.

They make the Grinch and Scrooge look like pleasant, benevolent figures.

This is like what Jimmy Carter did. Remember when he told everyone not to put up Christmas lights because of the energy crisis (the one he created)? Yes, leftist are soul-less. They worship false gods.

I’m in a mandatory bed rest mode until I see my orthopedic surgeon two days after Christmas. Mr. Mercat is a bit stressed that he has to do so much Christmas.

Why *slam is bad for the environment, and what you can do about it. R*amadandingdong is a time of celebration, but once the party’s over, plenty of infidels are dead, and need to be hauled to the funeral home. It is estimated that 23% more infidels are murdered during R*amadandingdong, and right afterwards.

What you can do.
Have your local m*sque closed and torn down. That alone will lead to a cleaner neighborhood, with noticeably fewer deaths in the vicinity every Friday afternoon.

Shut down newspapers, such as the globe and mail, that actively promote *slam, which is responsible for thousands of deaths throughout the globe.

Doing these things will lead to a cleaner world, and happier holiday times for all.

“...can’t go in your recycling blue bin, so it’s destined for the landfill...”

The stuff in the blue bin is also going to the landfill.

To save paper, your Human Fund donation card will be emailed this year. Maybe. Or maybe that was it.

Our city just changed over to the large wheeled bins. We used to play their stupid recycling game because they charged us by weight for trash, but recycling was free.

The recycling bin has an honored place behind my house, never to be used.

Industrial recycling of certain materials, like aluminum makes sense, when it’s done by the ton.

Curbside recycling is a colossal waste of time and resources.

Those wheeled ones are pretty good for lightweight yard debris such as leaves.
