Detroit TV meteorologist Jessica Starr commits suicide after sharing 'struggles' caused by Lasik eye surgery. ( Full title).
A Detroit meteorologist whose final social media posts highlighted her lingering struggles after getting Lasik eye surgery committed suicide Wednesday. She was 35.
...
She underwent Lasik SMILE eye surgery in October and was forced to take time off of work, a struggle she addressed in a Facebook video in early November.
Im still healing (but) Im ready to get back to my life, she said, noting that doctors told her it would take about three months before she felt 100% again.
...
Her final tweet came one day later, when she explained that the surgery was still affecting her day-to-day life.
Update: yesterday was a struggle for me. I really wanted to come back but I need more time to recover.
...
Her death echoes that of 54-year-old Paul Fitzpatrick, who committed suicide in October due to the intense pain he experienced as a result of a badly performed laser eye surgery 20 years ago.

She got tired of waiting for her life to get back to normal so she killed herself?
Something is not right there.
I guess entitlement mentality can leave you with a lot of issues when life doesn’t end up perfect like you think you deserve.
Severe depression is a killer. Its NOT an entitlement issue.
You sneer so well. You must have a lot of practice.
I know husbands don’t matter at all these days. But that’s very uncool to abandon her two kids.
Maybe she had other issues. This seems so trivial. It’s not comparable to the other person they mention, who suffered severe pain for years. She had the surgery only a couple of months ago.
SECOND THREAD on this!
SECOND THREAD on this!
LASIK surgery is foolish,IMO.There so much that can go wrong...and it’s simply about glasses.
I suspect another case of a mood / mind altering drug.
Not street drugs, but a prescription drug.
Did she have info that could have indicted Hillary Clinton?
Yeah - so?
Indeed. The idea of doing anything that could damage the structure of the eye, merely to avoid wearing glasses for a few years, does not make sense to me.
I think that something else must have been going on here. The doctor told her it would take about 3 months to heal... and she couldn't wait that long?
It changed my life so much for the better.
Being shackled with thick glasses or playing the contact lens game for most of my life was no joy. I was so near-sighted.
It’s held for many years, much to the surprise of the different eye specialists I’ve visited about my other lifelong problem.
SECOND POST on this thread.
Beat me to it. Was she going to do an expose on the Clintons?
Bet that clinic won’t advertise on the station anymore.
After having suffered cardiac arrest, comas, pneumonia, brain seizures, etc, I was revived enough to have a defifrilator put in, climbs steps during therapy (which they said couldn’t be done, and literally walk out of the hospital after 16 days.
However, my eyes were in bad shape so I couldn’t read at all for almost a month, nor could I look up or down without getting very dizzy.
It took about three months to fully recover and go back to work. My job and my writing career were founded on reading and writing a lot, but I knew that I had to let the healing take place at its own pace.
I fell sorry that this woman killed herself, so I agree with other commenters here at FR that there must have been something we don’t know about that severely affected her mood/outlook, etc.
Leaving her family like that is an indicating that something else was undermining her life and reason/will to live.
