“...and it happened over a few thousand years at most...”

To put it into perspective, and giving them the benefit of the doubt, a few thousand years is 3,000 years. 3,000 years ago, Jesus was still A thousand years away from being born.

Think of how much has happened in between then and now and recognize that this is the “emergency” they’re trying to solve NOW.

What kind of fossil fuels were the Permian Era creatures burning?

The Planet Has Seen Sudden Warming Before. It Wiped Out Almost Everything.

NY Slimes?= Hogwash.

Just how much warmer the planet will get is up to us. It will take a tremendous international effort to keep the increase below about 4 degrees Fahrenheit.

Yep, it's the collective fault of mankind.

There is no fall this year. Just early winter. Seems there is lower than normal sunspot activity.

Hey Algore? Did you factor in the sun? Schmuck.

Yes. More attempts to convert a free nation into a totalitarian state, an economy comntrolled by axioms of liberal fascist scientists. They can go and f**k off.

Our US culture is pretty good at preserving our environment
and man alone cannot influence of prevent extinction events on the earth. Thank goodness for that.

What did the fauna do at the end of the Permian-Triassic period? Gas themselves by too much shit to cause global warming? The humans were not around then? Or was it a huge meteor or volcanic activity?

Its the sun stupid. The largest driver of climate change and all we can do is get ahead of the curve and ride it out, you science fools. Get out of politics and stay in the lab.

And get religion.

It occurs to me that if enough carbon gets sequestered, there is less carbon available to form the essential plant nutrient CO2, fewer, punier plants means less oxygen, less oxygen dissolved in the seas is the signature they are using to blame higher temperatures.

"The groups with the highest survival rates generally had active control of circulation, elaborate gas exchange mechanisms, and light calcification; more heavily calcified organisms with simpler breathing apparatuses suffered the greatest loss of species diversity." (Wiki)

I read this to mean critters that were dependent on CO2 to form shells suffered the most when CO2 levels fell, and critters who couldn't actively 'breathe' suffered when with the lower O2 levels they couldn't pump enough of the depleted oxygen into their systems.

This is a re-hash of a ‘study’ done years ago.

Wonder why the NYT reruns it just now?

How was this warming possible without any humans, factories, SUV’s, etc.? Are they suggesting that there is historical, scientific precedent for massive climate change that has nothing to do with human activity? This is blasphemy is is not?

No mention of the flash frozen mammoths due to “sudden warming”? Did the times look back in their archives to find this info? Did they interview rbg?

Heck, thirteen thousand years ago an extinction level event occurred that wiped out 35 genera (multiple species per genera) of huge herbivores and carnivores.

It will happen again, but probably never have to live through it.

Global warming robbed the oceans of oxygen, they say, putting many species under so much stress that they died off.

It's true! Just look at what the IPCC experts show happened when the world warmed for the Medieval Climate Optimum (AKA Medieval Warm Period)!

It was a terrible disaster and 98% of all life on earth was wiped out, which is why that climate anomaly was called an optimum. Oh, wait. "Optimum" implies that warming was good. Those who pretend to be scientists today will need better spin on that one. And the warming from when we left the "Little Ice Age" in about 1860 to the present? Is that because conservatives have been driving SUVs for 150 years, or is that because planets naturally warm up when they leave a full ice age or even a little one?

Some 252 million years ago, Earth almost died.

And it did it all on its' own. No SUVs or fossil fuels to blame.

Just nature.
