The U.S. needs to acknowledge and understand the religious motivation grounding the aggression of adversaries like the Taliban, ISIS, and Putin against U.S. interests. This is not only because certain kinds of conflict will not be ultimately won with tanks and airplanes alone, but also because a lack of understanding promotes dangerous policy mistakes. The plight of Christians in the Middle East gives but one example:
Putin and Assad have maneuvered to become the explicit protectors of Eastern Christianity in situ. Moscow is back as their shield and Orthodoxy’s patron. He didn’t sidle up to the Russian church in recent years purely for domestic reasons. He knew the unforgotten historical alignments just below the surface from Moscow out through the Balkans, through the Caucasus, past Turkey to the Holy Land. All he needed was a spate of Sunni jihadist assaults on Christians for which he could blame the West’s chaotic freedom-mongering. His Shiite crescent from Tehran through Assad to Hezbollah can and do now posture as the champions of local Christians. As the US and Europe are too tangled up in ideological confusion and contradictory goals to step into the breach, we furnish Moscow with easy triumphs in this area as in so many others.
In addition, since the Cold War the U.S. government has had a dismal record of attempted engagement in the war of ideas—at almost any level, but especially regarding religion...

Long read but interesting. Author talks about Putin’s Rasputin, Dugin, and the God gap that prevents the US and Russia (and others) from being able to understand each other.
They’re in eighth place, behind China and mostly a few European nations. Still nothing to crow about. But since the late 90s when he took charge, the abortion rate has been cut by more than half. They have a procreation holiday in September, and everything in the government is oriented towards encouraging bigger families, and reducing homosexuality period last but not least in Russia abortion is only allowed in the first trimester unlike us that goes the full term allowing it.
They are still substantially above our rate, but their trend is going in the right direction, unlike the perverts here who are taking us God only knows where.
I wonder how sincere his backing of Orthodox faith is there, and how much of it is for political reasons. But I have to compare that very favorably to our own politicians who openly back evil, abortion, homosexuality, trannies, witchcraft, atheism, and everything else under the sun. I’d rather have my leader at least pretend the support Christianity then what we get.
I can see where you're coming from especially with as liberal/socialist as my corner of the country is getting -- but my Russian expat friends would disagree with you. They all want green cards.
It's going to be a REAL bummer if Trump does not win in 2020...and the entire GOP needs to get their act together. I do believe there is a strong contingent of young conservatives waiting in the wings to carry the torch.
