Seattles homeless crisis has business owners and employees in SoDo wondering what exactly the city is doing to help.
Homelessness affects the City of Seattle in a variety of ways, as encampments and RVs in Seattles SoDo neighborhood continue to make their presence known
We certainly are seeing an increase in criminal activities on our streets, of threatening behaviors, of people that are afraid to walk on our streets, said Erin Goodman, executive director of the SoDo Business Improvement Area.
Speaking to KTTHs Jason Rantz, Goodman outlined a myriad of problems businesses in the SoDo neighborhood face on a daily basis.
I speak to women who are being followed from their work to their car, assaulted, threatened, propositioned, she said. We had a situation in SoDo a couple of weeks ago where someone was chased with a pitchfork down the street for parking too close (to a camp).
And while the local homeless population is certainly a problem, Goodman argued it points more toward the need for resources for mental health care, substance addiction and abuse, domestic violence, and economic disparity.
Those are all different issues that share a similar symptom that were calling homelessness, Goodman said.

"...while the local homeless population is certainly a problem, Goodman argued it points more toward the need for resources for mental health care, substance addiction and abuse, domestic violence, and economic disparity."
I know the answer....raise taxes!
Could it possibly be due to Seattle’s deep blue denial of reality policies? nah
100 percent should do, for starters.
I’m tired of these socialist memes ‘sodo’ ‘eado’ ‘midtown’ ‘xxxcity strong’
Same made up nicknames and slogans no matter where you go in this country.
Same as the red state blue state crapola.
Wait, what? That person is on the side of business?? They are so screwed.
“That person is on the side of business?? They are so screwed.”
Royally screwed.
“while the local homeless population is certainly a problem, Goodman argued it points more toward the need for resources for mental health care, substance addiction and abuse, domestic violence, and economic disparity.”
Hmmm, a starting point toward a solution. Not money but issues.
When I was growing up in Western Washington (1950’s, 60’s), visiting and perhaps living in Seattle was my dream. It was the Emerald City (as it calls itself). Bright. Shining. Vibrant. Up beat.
While living there never happened, we have spent a 2 day week end around Christmas to shop, eat and look at all the decorated stores. We’ve done this for over 20 years.
This year we are not going to do so.
The last few years have seen the streets get “meaner” and more littered with vagrants. Entering some stores involves running a gauntlet of bums. Walking back to our hotel late after dinner is just not comfortable. Needles and human poop and litter are all over the city center.
Add to this protest marches against capitalism during the pre-Christmas week ends is not very “cheery”.
In short, Seattle is giving the likes of San Fran and LA a run for their money on who is the least likable place to visit.
Buh, bye Emerald City.
Asylums. Bring ‘em back!
Harry Nile audio dramas made Seattle sound kind of nice.
Will SoDo do anything about it? SoDo might.
You get what you vote for, you idiots!

Liberalism is a mental disorder
No, no, they’re woke, socially conscious, locally sourced organic non-gender specific businesses, so it’s cool.

Well, all 3 staff members have Master’s degrees...so there’s that...LOL
As a native Seattleite (not living in the city now), I am embarrassed by the idiots who keep electing idiots. So disgusting.
Well, at least the corner liquor stores are doing well, when they’re not being robbed.
Sodo refers to “south of the dome”, the home of the Seahawks. I get what you’re saying tho.
I heard the interview. Goodman was rational, well spoken and used all the correct leftist buzzwords while trying to sell the idea that the city council needs to enforce rules against crime, and she wasn’t trying to criminalize homelessness.
I wondered at the time if she really believes the BS she is spewing, or if it was a simple survival tactic to try and keep things from getting worse.
Being outed as a conservative in SODO is probably as bad for business as having junkies pimp out street kids in those busted down RV shooting galleries across the street, and having their unlicensed guard dogs attack shoppers picking their way between panhandlers and needles.
If she really believes the liberal hooey as a business representative, she’s about to find out that the socialists running the city council aren’t interested in her plight, and the poor, smack addled predators and nuisances she empathizes with aren’t going to give any deference to a business with an “I hate Trump” or “Bernie 2020” rainbow signs in the soon to be busted windows.
The Dems in the next session will run the state unhindered by any conservative check or balance in the legislature. The state courts stretch law and precedent beyond the breaking point to please the state labor unions that fill their judicial reelection coffers, actually taking budget power away from the legislature when it comes to education, the biggest piece of the public pie. Initiative just passed will impose draconian gun restrictions, fees and requirements and cripple the police.
Seattle style progressive social justice is about to sink the whole state, much less SODO.
She’d have a better chance trying to get the druggies sent to outlying suburban and rural areas as punishment to the voters still resisting the New Washington Order.
