A squirrel hunter opened fire, hitting his hunting partner in the face.
DNR officials were called to the Allegan State Game Area to investigate a hunting accident.
Thats when they learned that a squirrel hunter opened fire with his 12-gauge shotgun after seeing movement next to a tree, around 20 yards away.
The movement turned out to be his hunting partners face, according to conservation officers.
The shot caused serious injury to the mans face, eye, and jaw. He was airlifted to the hospital for treatment.
Conservation Officers report the victim was not wearing any hunter orange.
The investigation continues, and charges are pending.
I may be going out on a limb here, but I’ll just bet there was some alcohol consumed before this happened.
Look! A Squirrel!
BANG!
OOPS, Sorry, Fred!..................
I’d think you could get a good visual on a squirrel, rather than just firing at movement.
A 12 gauge shotgun seems a bit of an overkill for squirrels.
Somebody shot Paul Krugman?
I dove shoot with a 12 gauge....What about that???
The deal was with the squirrels, not with his fellow hunter. I think.
You mean that there would be nothing left? If so, I agree! However the following puzzles me;
Conservation Officers report the victim was not wearing any hunter orange.
Is there now 'hunter orange' face paint?
“I dove shoot with a 12 gauge....What about that???”
Sure, at 25-50 yards.
I’ve nailed hundreds of squirrels with pellet guns.
I also just throw them away or let them lie. They’re an non-native invasive species where I live.
“I dove shoot with a 12 gauge....What about that???”
Squirrel hunting with a blowgun doesn’t scare the others off so much.
Dick Cheney must be out hunting again.
Conservation Officers report the victim was not wearing any hunter orange and had a big furry tail.
Birds are normally shot on the fly.
Squirrels normally sit on tree branches.
Not real sporting.
Dove shoots I use a 12 gauge...
Squirrel hunting, I use a .22...
Deer hunting, depending on the topography, I use either a .270 or a .35...
Black bear hunting, I use a .44 Mag handgun or the .35...
Turkey hunting, I go fishing...
Hunting squirrels has always struck me as humorous. It’s one thing if you actually live out beyond where they don’t paint yellow lines down the middle of the road and a trip to town takes a full day or more. I get that. I just keep seeing my dear ol’ dad, may he rest in peace, sitting out on the porch with an arsenal of his grandkids’ SuperSoaker squirt guns, waiting for the little bastards to make another attempt at the birdfeeder... LOL!
Heck, get a pellet gun and hunt them from the kitchen window :-)
I had a buddy who would show up for football Sunday with the guys and he'd bring along some barbecued squirrels from his latest "hunting" adventure. It would have been cheaper (and more filling) to run by Harris Teeter and pick up a rack of baby back ribs. And, as a bonus, you wouldn't be constantly spitting out shotgun pellets.
