The world's biggest cruise ship has made its U.S. debut, with the enormous vessel casting a shadow on Miami. Royal Caribbean's newest liner Symphony of the Seas, which cost $1.35 billion to build, boasts 18 decks, 22 restaurants, and room to accommodate 6,680 guests. I must have simple tastes. Just want a balcony to enjoy the ocean, good food, and gambling.

The Oasis Class ships are just out of this world and believe me when I tell you that there is plans to build another one by 2021 that will be the biggest in the world.

With that many people, how long do you have to wait to disembark at a port?

Pay a large nonrefundable fee to be stuffed in a sardine can with a few thousand strangers, wined, dined, and prepped for a disaster of sinking and various diseases.

No thanks.

When I go on vacation I want to get away from most people, not be crammed into a confined space with thousands of them.

Not quite that many on the MSTS ship Gen. W. A. Mann at Oakland in 1961...

Because that name is already taken.

I would not step foot on one of those things if the trip was free. Including crew there must be 8-9000 people on those ships.

I saw this ship in Naples Italy. It dwarfed the Cunard cruise ship that was docked next to it.

Really not long. They are very efficient, have two lines of passengers leaving, a quick scan of your sea pass and off you go.

I've been on Allure and Oasis (sister ships) many times.

My wife and I agree with you. Would have no interest at all sailing on this. Much prefer something along the line of Holland-America’s ROTTERDAM which we have sailed on and enjoyed thoroughly.

An intimate cruise, yourself and 6,679 of your very best friends. I can hardly wait. Just imagine the people you will meet while you’re waiting in line to board, eat, drink, debark, attend shows, abandon ship drills. Priceless.

When it comes to cruise ships there is such a thing as too big.

Wife and I took our first cruise on Royal Caribbean Sovereign of the Seas for our 20th anniversary. Great ship plenty of room with vanity, closet, vanity drawers, comfortable couch and chairs and coffee table with large windows no balcony, 3500 passengers at most with no crowds for dining or shows. Room service any time of day/night was no extra charge.

Last March we went on Harmony of the Seas, 6500 passengers, 2500 crew. Room was smaller with a small vanity and drawers, closet, couch that was TOTALLY uncomfortable. Balcony was OK but small. Room totally sucked! As a handicapped person who is somewhat ambulatory, the room was 150 steps from the elevators in the aft section of the ship. Totally exhausted by time I went anywhere.

Want breakfast? show up to ONLY place open which was Windjammer cafe with other 6500 passengers and totally gave up. Went back to room to order room service which carried an extra surcharge for everything. And that morning... “Sorry, we are in port and no room service available.”

Starve until catered lunch in Haiti port of call.

British Pub? What a fricking joke! Heineken and Heineken light, Newcastle and hard cider only things on tap!

Boarding and disembarking were the only parts that went smoothly. Very well organized...if you waited for your section to begin either process.

Would appreciate comments regarding other cruise lines as we are both now retired and are looking into other lines. Never Royal Caribbean again. They are more interested in squeezing extra passengers into smaller confinements than being what they used to be...taking care of customers.

Looks top-heavy to me.

It’s not. Most of the weight is at or below the waterline by design.
