But I’d like to throw an additional theory out there:

Perhaps “placeholder” refers to the acting AG and he is going to declassify some things. That could occur whether or not he stays in the position.

Related: One theory as to why Gowdy didn’t run for reelection is that he’s going to be the next AG. If that is NOT the case, then does anyone have a good theory on why he didn’t run? Also Goodlatte. Why didn’t he run for reelection??? Any guesses on a future role for him?
