Last night there was a controversial play that allowed L.A. to score 4 runs.With respect to that, I wrote this a few hours ago.

Harold Reynolds and Joe Girardi were on the post game show last night. They went into great detail about how they were sure that Bellinger interfered.
They got out on their little studio baseball field and showed how Bellinger ran up the first base line in FAIR territory. They both thought it was interference by Bellinger. They said if they were managing Boston they "WOULD HAVE BEEN SCREAMING" at the no-call.
But the umpires chose not to call it for some bizarre, perhaps cowardly reason.
And it being unreviewable, nothing happened and Boston scored 4 runs as a result.
Bellinger interfered and it wasn't called.
Reynolds and Girardi even included an illuminating few seconds of actual "film" from the game from a camera that had been placed DIRECTLY looking toward homeplate from the right field line --- directly down the line as Bellinger hurried to first base, running INSIDE the line the entire way. It was a judgment call by the umpire that he did not interfere. Reynolds and Girardi were vehemently disagreeing. (QUITE EXCELLENT OF THEM to call out the umpires on national tv!)
That to me was one of the worst (and important) non-calls in baseball history.

PS --- Bellinger is a smart kid. He was very sly. Being a left handed batter (as I was all my playing years), he knew that the natural momentum/force of a left-handed hitter after his swing is to pull your body out toward FOUL territory as you are leaving the batters box. He had to quickly and purposefully adjust and turn INTO THE FIELD OF PLAY so he could be a problem for the catcher. He is a very fast runner. The catcher's throw grazed him right before he got to the bag (he was still in fair territory).
The catcher should have DRILLED HIM right in the back. Then baseball fans may have gotten the correct call.
Gutless umps.
You almost got your wish in Game 3. I went to bed in the 12th inning.
"That is how you ‘taught’ an opposing runner to slide into a base, not try to barrel you over, come out throwing side arm and - like shooting - aim for the mass....
Only takes once and they ‘learn’ how to slide."

I remember when Bryce Harper first came up, Cole Hamels purposely hit him (He admitted it later and probably told BH on the way to first) Harper eventually ended up stealing home after that hit by pitch and the next time up he purposely dropped a bunt up the first base line (hoping the pitcher would have to field it?) -my speculation.. Would have been interesting to see what the ‘brash young 19 year old would have done to the ‘crafty veteran pitcher’ if the three would have gotten to the same spot at the same time.... No doubt in MY mind that BH intended to leave spike marks UP Hamels’ back...

Bellinger did a shrewd thing. Good baseball smarts. The catcher failed to do what you suggested. Bad baseball smarts.
It's very difficult for the catcher to thread that needle on a hurried throw. It's also tricky for the guy covering 1st base as his view is somewhat obstructed and the ball can get deflected off the runner. So the correct move for the catcher??? DRILL HIM SQUARE IN THE BACK! Let the umps sort it out with more time to make a review.

When TV first came to our town, the Fire House had one and certain of us were allowed to watch the baseball games.
My particular ‘talent’ was I could tell you all the Brooklyn Dodgers vital stats and the Home Town Volunteers would ‘show me off’ to visiting firemen and dignitaries that found it ‘necessary’ to vist the local station when a ball game was on the TV.
Having a birthday in early Oct, my ‘worst’ present was Dodgers finishing # 2 until 1955 when it became the BEST BIRTHDAY ever.
Imagine that, the BASEBALL World Series, in the bag before OCT 9.....here we are pushing November and still playing....

Vin Scully ---------- what a brilliant, quietly informative announcer. He was an incredibly true pro! His play by play style was gentle and reassuring.
So far as I recall, the runner has the “right” to the base path.
The problem arose when the throw to the plate was high, which caused a rushed throw. The catcher and the first baseman have a right to throw the ball in the most direct line.
None of them “appeared” to be obviously impacting the other.
That is why they are “judgement “ calls.
I was screaming at the TV first for the umps to call interference, and then for Cora to challenge. I could not figure out why there was not a huge argument over that.
And now I know. The easiest play in the world to review, and for some reason it is non-reviewable. It can't be any harder than a foul line call to get right, and it amazes me that between the home plate, first base, and right field line umps, none of them ever considered calling Bellinger out.

The interference call is NOT automatic simply because the base runner does not confine himself to the 3-foot lane.
Yes, but I bracketed it to emphazie symphonies..the Brooklyn part was wrong.
However since we are being ‘picky’ have to change part two to every HOME GAME ...HA HA
