Declassified report warns of dangers from electromagnetic pulse
China, Russia, North Korea, and Iran are preparing nuclear electronic pulse attacks from space in a future conflict to cripple the U.S. military and plunge the United States into darkness, according to a declassified study.
"The United States critical national infrastructure faces a present and continuing existential threat from combined-arms warfare, including cyber and manmade electromagnetic pulse (EMP) attack, and natural EMP from a solar superstorm," says a recently published report from the congressional Commission to Assess the Threat to the United States from Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) Attack."
The report, containing redactions requested by the Pentagon, was written by William R. Graham, EMP commission chairman who is regarded as one of the foremost experts on EMP. Graham helped discover the phenomenon after a 1962 U.S. atmospheric nuclear test near Hawaii.
"Potential adversaries understand that millions could die from the long-term collateral effects of EMP and cyber-attacks that cause protracted black-out of national electric grids and other life-sustaining critical infrastructures," the report states.
"At least some regard this relatively easy, potentially anonymous, method of inflicting mass destruction as an attractive feature of what they describe as a Revolution in Military Affairs."

Safe to say we’re considering them, too. Defensively, of course.
Of course.
Drones, electromagnetic pulses, ability to poison the food and water supply. One wonders if we're headed to a 1,000 year Dark Ages.
I know, I think too much. So I've been told. <^..^>
China, Russia, North Korea, and Iran Set For Electronic Pulse Attacks on U.S.
The article you posted restates old and well-known information about EMP. There is nothing in the article about an imminent combined attack from China, Russia, NK, and Iran as the headline suggests:
"The United States critical national infrastructure faces a present and continuing existential threat from combined-arms warfare, including cyber and manmade electromagnetic pulse (EMP) attack, and natural EMP from a solar superstorm,"
"Potential adversaries understand that millions could die from the long-term collateral effects of EMP and cyber-attacks that cause protracted black-out of national electric grids and other life-sustaining critical infrastructures,"
This is irresponsible reporting at its worst.
The article quotes the report "Nuclear EMP attack is part of the military doctrines, plans, and exercises of Russia, China, North Korea, and Iran for a revolutionary new way of warfare against military forces and civilian critical infrastructures by cyber, sabotage, and EMP."
Who thinks EMP is not in the U.S. arsenal and we have military doctrines on its use?
I am sure the war plan for Iran is “cripple their electric grid and blow-up all their dams, and when the Ayatollahs have to worry about how to feed 30 million they’ll quit making trouble”.
I’m with you. I have a theory: we are a bigger threat to them than they are to us.
Have a whole house surge protector added to your power box.
Drastically reduces your susceptibility.
What does it protect against if the entire electric grid is shut down and all electronic devices are fried?
The global warming alarmists would welcome it. Until they were eaten.
Oh geez not this garbage again.
The EMP threat is HIGHLY exaggerated.
“The EMP threat is HIGHLY exaggerated.”
When I was in college, about thirty years ago, when the National Review was a serious magazine, its writers use to detail how it would go down.
The threat is not exaggerated, at least in the eyes of defense experts. Now, politicians, that is another matter.
It also does not protect against a direct hit with an asteroid.
However in real life scenarios it protects against EMF surges both natural and otherwise.
And yes you are far more likely to be struck with lightning.
But it is nice when you fire up your generator or the grid is restored that you do not have to replace your entire house worth of appliances and electronics.
They studied EMP and the effect it has on cars. It can shut them off. The fix? restart the engine. LOL.
“This is irresponsible reporting at its worst.”
Oh, give ‘em a break.
They write for the stupid among us.
I tried a little over a year ago to bring reality into an EMP discussion and was roundly booed off the stage by the same audience.
Believe me, there’s $Billions in EMP hardening. It’s another attempt at Y2K. And it’s a contracted “special report” to the Congress by folks who stand to profit.
This has nothing to do with an official Government announcement of risk, nor recommended remediation.
The REAL EMP risk is to be 1 mile below a 100KT air burst. Or 10-20 miles away.
But most certainly if you are 100 miles away, your car will start.
EMP hoax is the global warming of military threats.
I understand cause I, too, think too much...
For years, I’ve been asking Officials to protect our electric grids. And, not too long ago, Mark Levin interviewed man from Discovery Institute and he talked extensively about Electro Magnetic attacks. It was beyond frightening. Now I respond to political letters asking for money (none sent)by asking that they address electric grids AND ElectoMagnetic issues.
Great book. Tough to read. Depressing.
I’ve had the thought that there’s a reason aliens cannot get to another civilization in the universe. It’s because the ability to do so comes with the ability to self-destruct.
