UNC leader apologizes for school's history of slavery

The chancellor of North Carolina's flagship public university apologized Friday for the school's history of slavery, adding that words alone are not enough to atone for using enslaved people to build and maintain the campus. "As chancellor of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, I offer our university's deepest apology for the profound injustices of slavery, our full acknowledgment of the strength of enslaved peoples in the face of their suffering, and our respect and indebtedness to them," Chancellor Carol Folt said during a celebration of the school's 225th anniversary. "And I reaffirm our university's commitment to facing squarely and working to right the wrongs of history so they're never again inflicted."

“Never again inflicted”?
I think he believes a return to slavery is possible. What a fool.

Seems to me African-American athletes are a type of indentured servitude especially when steered to fake courses as what happened at UNC.

Just don't do it again Chancellor.

Some people say that about ROTC, too: that committing to work a certain period of time in exchange for your education is “indentured servitude.”

A difference is that the military services want an educated officer candidate, while sports don’t care if the gladiator learns anything.

I’m sure that the surviving ex-slaves of North Carolina will feel much better after they learn about this apology, but it might be more useful to fight against slavery where it is still practiced in the world (either chattel slavery or debt slavery). Unfortunately the practitioners of slavery today belong to groups which cannot be criticized.

They traded picking cotton and a healthy agricultural lifestyle for crack, smack, dope, weed, meth, oxys, EBT, WIC, Section 8, diabetes, heart disease, broken homes, incarceration, gangland hits, and premature death.

I'd say that's one helluva trade.

Who is he apologizing to? The last slaves died more than a century ago.

And who is he to be apologizing? He never owned slaves.

I apologize for my brutish Scottish ancestors burning York about 800 years ago. OK? Golly, I sure feel better now.

OK Chancellor. Take the responsibility of a leader and resign your post if you are sincere. In fact, the entire campus should be demolished. It’s just one big Silent Sam statue as a reminder of slavery!

The ‘He’s’ as she and she has also made the lying or mistaken princess from CA against KAV an extinguished Almuni from UNC-CH and allowed or helped in the tearing down of Confederate statutes on campus...so she surely is on some of our list for......(fill in the blanks0!

SHE a real gift to the heritage of real southern North Carolinian - NOT!

How dumb. Don’t apologize for what people did 200 years ago. Doubtful those people would apologize. It was obviously a different world back then. Any civilization apologizing for things 2 century’s old is ignorant, and on the brink of destruction or in decline. Pathetic to see how far this nation has fallen.

Lol. UNC is a mess. They have so much corruption going on. They feel the need to keep throwing bones out to the leftist.
