A young colored Republican, while making an address at Forty-fourth street and Second avenue last night, came near being roughly handled by a number of men. There were some policemen watching those listening to the speaker at the time, and they quickly suppressed the disturbance by severely shaking two or three who were in a riotous mood. A person at the meeting said sticks, stones, garbage and eggs were thrown at the person on the cart and at people in the gathering, but the police of the Fifty-first st. station denied that any sticks or stones were hurled at anyone at the meeting. Several officers acknowledged that eggs had been thrown.

I had to double check the source of this article. For some reason that sounded like an account from England. “Ah yes, Livingston and I did a shake-up what with some hooligans that were in a right jolly riotous mood.”
Rotten eggs - does that mean it was premeditated assault? Or do these folks just keep rotten eggs around in case they develop a riotous mood?

We’re getting attacked several times a day now, it seems - and I’m beginning to wonder why our wonderful government doesn’t seem to recognize what’s going on and do SOMETHING to stop it.

Ugnh! So now I’m supposed to check the year AND the place!!?? (I see the title again - and the term “Ruffian” probably was in my brain too.)
And I guess I’m old enough where the term “colored” seemed a bit off, but not a screamer.
The lefties are going to only go after the soft targets, like this one. They will mostly stay in the big cities. You can arm up, but you probably won’t see much action. Most of the action will be in gun-free zones.
I got a little more than halfway through the excerpt when I decided to check the date of the article. lol
