I went to the red carpet premiere of "Gosnell" tonight, at the Saban Theater in Beverly Hills -- within shrieking distance of many bastions of showbiz liberalism: talent agencies, law firms, movie studios. But the film itself was made without the support of the entertainment-industrial complex. In fact, it was financed largely by small donors on social media. It tells the tale, in deadpan policier fashion, of the investigation and trial of Kermit Gosnell, an abortionist who initially attracted the attention of law enforcement not because he was killing born-alive infants, but rather because his unlicensed staff members were purchasing too many medications. Since at least one adult female died in his care, as well as many born-alive infants, he is eventually tried -- and convicted -- of murder. The filmmakers rely upon police and court records to tell this story, in restrained and even-handed fashion. It is not a screed. And despite the disturbing subject matter, it is not graphic. It leaves conclusions to the minds of the audience. Well written (by Andrew Klavan, Phelim McAleer and Ann McElhinney) and crisply directed (by Nick Searcy), "Gosnell" is a motion picture that deserves the support of the FReeper community. It opens in theaters nationwide this Friday.
Thanks from L.A. - so far it looks like it’ll be playing at nearby AMC’s
So being right in the middle of liberal bastionism how crowded was the theater???
Packed.
Thanks for the report
I’ll be going Saturday. Thanks for you post.
oh wow. Great to hear.
WOW happy to hear this!!! Hope many go to see this movie, maybe they will stop sending coat hangers to legislators offices, this was a legal abortion clinic which was just as bad as a back alley illegal clinic just disgusting!!!
Yeah, it's gonna be hughly popular here in Wilmington, DE I'm sure. (/s)

Good idea. I will do that.
You are welcome!
I can’t really say “enjoy” the movie, because it is not necessarily “fun.” But it is powerful, compelling, and quite moving.
And the good guys do win in the end.
There was NO oversight of Gosnell’s “clinic” — for purely political reasons. The “right to choose” was so sacrosanct that even if that “right” was exercised in unsanitary, dangerous conditions, no legal restraint was contemplated. For decades.
Thanks for the report.
Would you consider it age appropriate for 10+?
For the record, 'coat hangers' and 'back alley illegal clinics' were basically a deceptive construct formed in the minds of those opposing Roe v Wade....
I'm proud to say that I was one of those who responded to the request for funding of Gosnell...
I’m debating that myself. Maybe 12+... Not because it is graphic, but rather because the subject matter is mature.
Planning to go to support this independent production. I had been dreading that it would be bloody, and am glad to hear your take that it focused on the criminality of his actions and the judicial response. Thank you for the review.
You are most welcome.
The film is not graphic.
The subject matter is disturbing, but the film has been made with restraint.
