In the early 1970s, an unusual boy captivated the nation. Now, decades later, his story continues to unfold in remarkable ways.

I was REALLY small and still remember Dad watching a story on PM Magazine about David. And then some years later, when I was a little older and could understand the real scope of the tragedy of David's life when he died.
It was the kind of thing that makes any kid wonder if God harbors some kernel of cruelty, that He would let anyone suffer like that. Much less a child.
Maybe some can find levity and humor from something like this. But not me. Never me. For as long as I live, the words "bubble boy" will evoke heartbreak.

I had no idea they could transplant bone marrow into a pre-born child. I’m so sorry for David and his family. How awful to go through what they did only to have the procedure that was supposed to help him end up killing him.

Thanks for sharing your feelings on it. I remember hearing about it as a kid. I found the report very interesting. I never knew about the disease he had or the circumstances around his life and death.
To: skr
I did not know that either.
To: Ciaphas Cain
all disease is a curse. I don’t see children as targeted for cruelty by God anymore than a cat or dog with “HIV”, cancer or other ailments was made to suffer for some pleasure of God.
life is a terminal disease, we all check out sometime and it isn’t always painless or quick.

I remember strangely sexy teen actress Glynnis OConner, the Bubble Boys romantic interest.

I see a lot of things that make me wonder about God’s motivation. Daily. It makes me angry.

If you have seen the movie remake, Bedazzled, she is the love interest in it.
