The Orioles have announced that neither Duquette nor Showalter will be retained for the 2019 season. Director of player development Brian Graham will oversee baseball operations while the team conducts a search for an outside hire. Hes been with the team since 2007 and previously served as an interim GM for the Pirates as well.
The club will hire an executive from outside of the organization to lead the Baseball Operations department, the Orioles said in tonights press release. Once in place, this individual will have the final determination on all baseball matters that he or she believes will make the Orioles successful on the field, entertaining to fans, and impactful in the community.
well, who can be surprised. After the worst season in Orioles history, management sees a need to clean house and start with a new GM and field manager.
What about the coaches? Often a new manager wants to bring in a new pitching coach, 1st base coach, 3rd base coach, etc.
There’s nowhere to go but up. This season has been a long slog I’m sure, for both players and fans of the team.
If anyone digs the machinations behind pro baseball, they should do some searches about the Nationals/Orioles and MASN, the regional sports network owned by the Orioles that carries the National’s games.

How is their farm system?
It sounds like a major multi year challenge to rebuild that team. I hope they get some top baseball men, good GM and manager, to turn the team around.
Not as good as it used to be. The O’s have serious problems that need to be fixed. I’m glad Duquette is leaving, but they should just clean house. They keep repeating this cycle of build up the team, have a couple of good seasons and then let the team get torn apart.
Biggest issue for the O’s is the pitching. Haven’t had good pitching in a while.
They got 5 petty good prospects for Machado. I like Yusniel Diaz a lot. I saw him in the Futures Game this year. Dillon Tate, one of the three pitchers they got for Britton, could be a quality middle of the rotation starter.
Some of the others look good too.
Yes, it will be a job to rebuild, especially in that division. Remember, Tampa Bay had the same record as the Braves. But they’re in a better position now than they were in July.
If they lose 100, it’s a 15-game improvement.
MASN=Mr. Angelos Screws the Nats.
Not much of a surprise.
But Brady Anderson will be retained in his executive position. In Baltimore, you have to pander to the Rainbow Flag critters.
