First pay people to show up at Trump rallies and attack Trump followers,
then organize teams to write fake letters (to editors and elected officials - as IF from conservatives) to make conservatives look violent or racist
encourage University students to commit fake hate crimes - "KKK at Oberlin" lies etc
mob conservatives speakers and shout them down when they try to speak,
'burn books' or - in our time the equivalent - use social media to take down conservative posting
find conservatives in public - shopping, having dinner, walking.. surround them and bully them into leaving for fear of their lives...

In Germany the “prestige” press did not support the SA until after the Nazis seized power, and Goebbels controlled the editorial policies of all media. (And discharged Jewish reporters, editors, and teachers.)

Not really. Hitler was appointed chancellor by von Hindenburg in January 1933. No party held a majority in the Reichstag. They then had a not-very-free election in March 1933. (It's easier to win when only your party is allowed to campaign.)
The Nazis' electoral high-water mark in free elections was in 1932.

The violence in 1920s Germany was perpetrated by communist street fighters, the Red Fighting Front. These are the Antifa of today, right down to the symbols.
The SA, or Brownshirts, arose because the Red Front was winning - by controlling the streets, they were controlling local and regional politics.
To defeat the Red Front eventually required beating them in the streets and sending them to concentration camps. Both Dachau and Buchenwald were created for this purpose.
We may eventually get there.
