Here is the thing: Leftists don't have any popular support for their stupid, crap, ideas. If they took truth serum and spoke to the American people, a lot of normal Americans would be horrified.
The best expression of this is the Veritas videos by James O'Keefe. He captures them speaking in their own element, surrounded by people they think are like them, and they tell the truth, like the Leftist pajama boy socialist turd with the beard who recently said:
"...Unfortunately, I am not allowed by the bylaws of my union to go against the Constitution..."
Think about that for a minute. He felt safe, and was saying exactly what he thought. And that is typical. He would scrap the Constitution in a second to achieve his socialist goals if he could, and most Leftists are the same.
So, they cannot come out and TELL Americans what they want. There is no popular mandate to raise taxes, spend money to solve a man-caused global warming problem that doesn't exist, cut the military, socialize health care, advocate homosexual marriage, have open borders, and so on.
So, to achieve their goals, they have to leverage a compliant judiciary. They have to pack the courts with activist judges and depend on litigation in courts to achieve their goals.
But...they slit their own throats. They salted the political ground under eight years of Obama, primarily by changing the rules so they could shove radical Leftist judicial nominees down the throats of the Republicans. The Republicans WARNED them not to do it. They SPECIFICALLY told the Leftists like Harry Reid that someday, they would not be in power, and they wouldn't like having the shoe on the other foot. But they did it anyway.
And then, like all Leftist, lazy turds, they couldn't get out of their own way because THEIR lazy ass "President" was busy filling out basketball playoff betting forms, or putting his feet up on the desk for photo ops, so they blew their chance.
So now, here we are. Hoisting them on their own petard, and doing it under the auspices of a President who appears to be taking great joy in doing it, using their own actions to impale them, and smiling to the sounds of their howls of outrage at having to impotently sleep in a bed of their own making. And he isn't putting his feet up on the desk for photo ops. With the amount of work he is doing, his own staff can't keep up with him even at the age of Seventy.
And like someone who finds themselves in a situation (like being tossed off the deck of a ship in a hurricane with no lifejacket) they know they aren't going to survive, they see the end all too clearly, but it is too late to change anything.
That is the situation the Left finds it in now. They have owned the Judiciary and the Supreme Court for a long time, so long that they took it completely for granted, but now that it is too late to change anything, they see the situation clearly:
Point is, before Trump's second term is up, he is likely going to appoint one more justice at a minimum, and it isn't out of the question to consider it could be two or even three more. If it is two more good young justices, and Kavanaugh is approved, there is going to be a 5-4 or 6-3 conservative, constructionist majority for decades. A Generation.
They did not see this until it was too late. And the economy is humming along, but worse, the Left is going to shortly be engulfed in a major tsunami of scandal when this idiotic "Russian Collusion" hoax comes crashing down (It WILL) and the perfidy of the Left is exposed to all to see.
And the Left has suddenly opened their eyes, but too late to avoid it. And all they see is the grinning countenance of that "Stupid, ignorant, boorish, sexist, racist" Donald Trump looking back at them as they contemplate the abyss. The one man we have had who says it like it is, and won't back down.
And it is driving the Left out of their ever loving minds. They have always been unhinged, but this is going to a new level. They are beginning to become overtly violent, so that is a drawback. But I prefer fighting them as law-abiding citizens against violent, unlawful adversaries than having to fight them as a dissident with the boot of their tyrannical government on my neck.
Real reasons for optimism, there - but if the Republicans dont pick up several senate seats this year, itll be hard to keep the majority in the senate in 20. Too much potential for reversion to the mean. If they do pick up seats this year, tho, things would be pretty bright on the judicial front as you suggest.
On the Constitution, have a look at originalism. Thomas is an originalist, as were Scalia and Bork.

...better than constructionism.
Great rant, rlmorel. ...using their own actions to impale them.
