Ive been using gmail for about four or five years now. I realize Microsoft is not perfect, but has anyone here looked at the pluses and minuses of Outlook compared to Gmail?
I did use my isp email and when I changed from verizon dsl to comcast cable I lost everything that was not downloaded. That is why I have been sticking with hotmail.
Worked for Microsoft for 18 years. it’s ok. However read googles ELUA that should scare the living day lights out of you.
This article here says that it is common to confuse the email service with the software package.....
I need to look into that... thanks.

Name Confusion - The Outlook.com email name is very like the premium Outlook email that comes with Microsoft office. Yet, the email packages differs somewhat. If you are looking at online help or reading an article, it’s important to be clear about which package is being discussed.
That's fine, many weak people do that exact same thing, bless your heart.
Right on, brother.
It’s pop3 and it works

I had to switch from Outlook to Gmail in a corporate environment.
I hate it.
You are comparing Apples to Cumquats.
GMAIL is a web based e-mail application, and Google maintains the e-mail on their ‘cloud’.
Outlook is an e-mail computer that resides on your computer; it does not have an e-mail account in of itself.
Plenty of people can get an e-mail account with their internet provider...(for example - COMCAST, WAVECABLE, etc. Look for the @comcast.com or @wavecable.com as an indicator.) Outlook can be used to automatically connect and download e-mails onto your computer -and the e-mails can be archived on your computer - and you can reveiw them, even when not connected to the internet. OTOH -Google, yahoo, etc. - have e-mail systems that rely on the internet - and you would have to make special provisions to download and save (while most people don’t do that - they just connect to their ‘cloud e-mail’ and review them on line. BUT- if offline - they can’t check their mail or look at past e-mails.
What is the email Rush uses,I know it is not free but must be decent. You get what you pay for and if its free they use you.?
Outlook is just another program/client to get and manage your email. You can use Outlook to grab your Gmail or other mail accounts. Outlook, IMO is better suited for business environments because of it’s features.
We have moved everything over to Office 365 and use Outlook on all of our machines. Best decision we ever made. Speaking from a company point of view of course.
I use Outlook for my personal correspondences.
I use Gmail when I need an ID to validate online hobby or shopping sites, or for other purposes where I know I'll be spammed (like when signing up for my Congressman's site).
If I'm going to get spammed from my online presence, I might as well make Google scan all that spam with everything else.

I don’t have gmail, but I absolutely detest Outlook, which I use at work. And not for political reasons.
I use the Outlook program, which enables me to also view my GMail. I use it to download my email from both my Comcast and GMail accounts to my computer for storage as opposed to leaving it on their servers. I prefer my data in my hands and on my computer, not theirs.
I want something not dependent on my ISP in case I move to a different Provider.
We use office 365 for email and are very happy with it. I think the basic account can be had for $5 per user per month.
Outlook removes your email from the server once it downloads to your machine. Its display presentation is MUCH better than a web page.
Gmail is not “real mail”. It is also a display program that displays data from a server. Outlook can remove the actual email records from the server, keeping them locally on your hard disk.
Ok. Server maintenance is pretty important....
I used to have EarthLink ISP and email.... I think I miss it now.
