De Blasio kills admissions standards in bid to diversify Brooklyn school district
NY Post ^ | September 20, 2018 | Selim Algar and Ruth Brown

Mayor de Blasio and new Schools Chancellor Richard Carranza on Thursday approved a controversial plan to scrap admissions standards in one of the city’s top districts as part of their crusade to diversify student bodies.

Effective immediately, the 11 middle schools in Brooklyn’s District 15 — which spans Park Slope into Sunset Park — must ditch education-based entrance criteria for a weighted lottery system that reserves roughly half of their seats for kids who are low income, homeless or learning English.

If you liked my previous post of how now students who may not even be able to play an instrument will be admitted to the arts high school on the basis of their complexion, here's another great one: DeBlASSio also wants to ruin the few remaining functional schools by reserving half of the seats in those precious few schools for low performing, non-English-speaking and failing students. Just what the heck does he expect will happen to that school's functionality? The blacks and Hispanics will act exactly how they did in their low-performing schools, disrupting classes, assaulting students, etc and POOF! The new school which used to function well will now become another ghetto school. I've NEVER EVER seen low performing kids with poor behavior turn into high performing kids with good behavior by being placed with high performing kids with good behavior. It's ALWAYS the other way around; the good kids give up with all the disruptions and interruptions in lessons, and start to turn in mediocre work.

I love how a couple of the libtard parents of kids already in the school see this as possibly a positive development; you can bet the bank that they have never in their lives worked with ghetto kids and seen them firsthand in action. If they had, they would not want their gently-reared sons and daughters anywhere near them. What will happen, as the story says, is that they will take their kids out of this school and the others slated for "diversity" and put them into private schools. Then, with no good-performing kids to "show them the way", these schools will sink below the sea surface, populated now only by poorly performing, unmotivated, behaviorly horrible students.

Another outright example of deliberate destruction of school demographics. Thus, destroying the schools. But Brooklyn must need the minority votes.....

If you assign students to elite schools at random, the schools will still be elite? Interesting idea. Let’s test it.

This is enraging the Asian-American community in NYC, which has historically been politically disengaged.

Another commie move to remove extremes at both ends of the spectrum and reduce everything to mediocrity. And DeBlASSio is Commie #1, with his imbecile sidekick schools chancellor Carranza Commie #2. Together, they will utterly destroy what's left of city public schools.

This serves no legitimate interest of any definable group but demagogues. It is a sickening pursuit of chaos for the sake of chaos.

See How The Left Keeps Minorities Dependent

De Blasio has to be a truly hate filled demagogue.

Right. I taught for many years in an urban school district. The only bright spot was our Honors program. And it was merit-based. For example, to get into Honors Algebra II, you had to earn at least a B in Algebra I. (That Algebra I course did not have to be an Honors course.)

Well, about five years ago the Honors program was eliminated. It wasn’t diverse enough. So now you have Honors-eligible kids mixed in with bums who only show up for class once a week.

Scores are down. And of course the classroom teachers are blamed.

Yes, the out-migration is happening. The NYC Dems think that their coalition will hold together as they redistribute the spoils from confiscatory taxation to their welfare state clients. I think they will be unpleasantly surprised.

On the other hand, most Jewish people in NYC would continue voting for anti-freedom & anti-Israel socialists even if deBlasio encouraged Antifa to maraud through the streets, breaking the glass windows of Jewish-owned businesses.

Exactamundo. You totally get what I'm saying, because our personal experiences were parallel. Mixing bad kids with good kids only has one outcome: more bad kids.

Unless there is an injunction on this ruling I would be curious to see how the voters in those areas react as they’ll already have a pretty good idea of how its going even by November :)

I think RedBadger means “neocon” in its original sense:

Those schools are in libtard areas, as most of the wealthier white areas are. The article quotes a couple of the school parents, saying "maybe it's not such a bad idea" and other completely naive libtard blathering. Just wait til Tyrone presses their daughter against a hall wall and proceeds to grind against her, and she begins to talk "ghetto" at home. Wait until Anthony is robbed by Juan and Jesus, then beaten up. Let's see what these fine upstanding white parents say then.

“ DeBlASSio also wants to ruin the few remaining functional schools by reserving half of the seats in those precious few schools for low performing, non-English-speaking and failing students. Just what the heck does he expect will happen to that school’s functionality”

As a retired teacher in a sacrosanct School of Choice school, I can tell you EXACTLY what will happen: test scores will fall, curriculum and lesson plans will be dumbed-down, standards lowered, white students will be subject to intimidation, bullying and much worse on a daily basis, as will minority students who try to participate in class and adjust to the mores that will none-the-less attempt to still be adhered to by everyone but the new arrivals, behavior issues will occupy at least part of class time everyday, learning will be disrupted. “Failing students” is newspeak for disciplinary problems, suspended and expelled students, even if the policy is strictly NOT to accept the aforementioned students. They always accept them. Need I say more? SoC is one Republican idea I do not support. It sounds good in theory, but in practice, not so much. Be careful what you advocate for.
