September Song--Walter Huston (1939)

Political angle: The song came from the show Knickerbocker Holiday (set in the early days of New York City) that was supposed to be critical of FDR.

A good counterpoint to all the “Autumn of my years” songs:

“Forever Young” originally written by Bob Dylan. Rod Stewart added verses and recorded the quintessential version. I love the opening lines and the weaving in of the Golden Rule. It’s such a great song from parents to their kids as you launch them on the pathway to a righteous life.

Dylan orginally wrote it as a lullaby for his eldest son Jesse, born in 1966, Dylan’s song relates a father’s hopes that his child will remain strong and happy. It opens with the lines, “May God bless and keep you always / May your wishes all come true”, echoing the Old Testament’s Book of Numbers, which has lines that begin: “May the Lord bless you and guard you / May the Lord make His face shed light upon you.

Rod Stewart version:

May the good Lord be with you
Down every road you roam

And may sunshine and happiness
Surround you when you’re far from home

And may you grow to be proud
Dignified and true

And do unto others
As you’d have done to you

Be courageous and be brave
And in my heart you’ll always stay

Forever Young, Forever Young
Forever Young, Forever Young

May good fortune be with you
May your guiding light be strong

Build a stairway to heaven
With a prince or a vagabond

And may you never love in vain
And in my heart you will remain

Forever Young, Forever Young
Forever Young, Forever Young

Forever Young, Forever Young

And when you finally fly away
I’ll be hoping that I served you well

For all the wisdom of a lifetime
No one can ever tell

But whatever road you choose
I’m right behind you, win or lose

Forever Young, Forever Young
Forever Young ,Forever Young
Forever Young, Forever Young

For, Forever Young, Forever Young

#20. Re “A Summer Song” by Chad and Jeremy “(Summer’s gone...).

A beautifully written, scored and sung song.

They, and Peter and Gordon, had some of the most beautiful songs around.

Have to add in the “Cascades” with “Rhythm of the Rain” and “Last Leaf “ (an AUTUMN song).

Can I add in “Dancing in the Moonlight” by King Harvest (I think that’s his name as versus King Curtis).

Can’t find my Billboard Top 40’s book. I feel as though I’m unarmed. The memory isn’t as good as it used to be, I think.

September Song -- Frank Sinatra
Oh, it's a long, long while from May to December
But the days grow short when you reach September
When the autumn weather turns the leaves to flame
One hasn't got time for the waiting game

Oh, the days dwindle down to a precious few
September, November
And these few precious days I'll spend with you
These precious days I'll spend with you

California Dreamin. The Mamas and the Papas.

My favorite is The Call of Summer by Pat Boone. I know it’s about Fall, but when it’s Fall, I am already wishing it’s summer again. 👍

Autumn Leaves - The Richard Galliano Tangaria Quartet...Beautiful...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9hjMisX997Y

“The falling leaves drift by the window...
The autumn leaves of red and gold...
I see your lips, the summer kisses...
The sunburned hands I used to hold...
Since you went away, the days grow long...
And soon I’ll hear Old Winter’s song...
But I miss you most of all, my darling...
When autumn leaves start to fall.”...

Yes, Caterina’s version is nice. I don’t know how to upload a youtube song and place it in this little box that I am typing into but Rosemary Clooney did a great version too.
