The reason Mr. Cavill’s superman bombed was because the directors intentionally deconstructed him. You’re an alien, but you absolutely won’t associate with the oppressive “American way”. Add in evil violent Earth military and “murder stupid Dad because you can’t have a good white father in media without him sacrificing himself for his betters”, and of course it bombed - they intentionally smeared the legacy to “update” it and try to make it better.
Don’t know about ‘B’, but number 23 is already Superman - why not use him?
