Empty Seats Plague NFL Stadiums in Week One of Season (PHOTOS + VIDEO)

Week one of the regular NFL season kicked off this weekend with a wimper–the ratings were at a 10-year low.

Friday night’s Eagles vs Falcons game was hit with heavy rains which caused a delay.

WOMP WOMP.

Americans are fed up with athletes kneeling during the National Anthem and it showed–plenty of empty seats plagued stadiums on Sunday.

On Sunday, the Chargers vs Chiefs game at the StubHub Center in Los Angeles, California had many empty seats 5 minutes after kickoff.

Sea of empty seats at the Chargers game. No excuses for bad weather. It is a beautiful sunny day at the StubHub Center in SoCal.

Plenty of empty seats at Baltimore Ravens vs Buffalo Bills 5 minutes after kickoff. The rain may be a factor, however; hardcore football fans previously filled stadiums in heavy rain and snow storms.

On Sunday, Miami Dolphins wide receivers Kenny Stills and Albert Wilson kicked off their first game one of the NFL season by taking a knee during the National Anthem and Colin Kaepernick celebrated.

The constant protests on the field are destroying the NFL.

The President slammed the NFL on Sunday for their abysmal ratings.

Wow, NFL first game ratings are way down over an already really bad last year comparison. Viewership declined 13%, the lowest in over a decade. If the players stood proudly for our Flag and Anthem, and it is all shown on broadcast, maybe ratings could come back? Otherwise worse!

I’ve been reading from Freepers that stadiums were full and that business was booming at some games. Baltimore was a rain out.

In lieu of attending these NFL games, sports fans should save their $$$ and play with their kids and grandkids more. You can have a great dialogue over a game of checkers.

The Chargers play in a soccer stadium with a capacity of 25,000. Observers thought that most of the fans that attended the game on Sunday were Chiefs fans. LA hasn’t been able to support one NFL team, much less two. The Chargers belong in San Diego. While the team sold out their season holders tickets, apparently most of them end up on Stub Hub.

Nike’s Favorability Drops Double Digits After New Kaepernick Campaign
BY ZACHARY STIEBER

September 7, 2018 Updated: September 7, 2018

Consumer opinion of Nike has dropped significantly following the announcement of a new campaign featuring controversial former NFL player Colin Kaepernick.

A report from Morning Consult found that Nike’s favorability has fallen by double digits following the campaign announcement, which prompted some customers to burn their Nike gear.

“Before the announcement, Nike had a net +69 favorable impression among consumers, it has now declined 34 points to +35 favorable,” Morning Consult stated. Additionally, before the announcement, 49 percent of Americans said they were either “absolutely certain” or “very likely” to buy Nike products. That number declined to 39 percent post-campaign.

Digging In
Nike’s favorability dropped in every single consumer group, including in 18- to 21-year-olds (81 percent to 51 percent); Gen X (75 percent to 39 percent); and Boomers (68 percent to 20 percent).

Favorability dropped the least among three groups: Democrats (74 percent to 65 percent); blacks (82 percent to 74 percent); and Millennials (64 percent to 52 percent).

No cause for concern. “Real businessmen” (and businesswomen) will figure out how to deal with it. By the end of the season we should see bookies giving odds on attendance (a real bet if sellouts aren’t the norm) and over/unders on “ratings decline from same week last year”.

We’ll all be able to bet and bookies will make their cut just like in the past. It’s just that Nielsen rather than ESPN will deliver the “final score” to determine the winners. /sarc

I’m one of the Freepers who did not watch. My GF and I went to the Santa Monica Pier which was more entertaining than hoodlums who hate America..

I hope after the Cowboys’ lackluster performance yesterday, soon to see JerryWorld half-empty.

With the ridiculous amount of money it costs to park there alone, it’s just not worth it.

I realized several years ago that the NFL is not essential to my happiness.

Surprising, I realized in the last 48 hours that women’s tennis is not essential to my happiness, either.

Freedom!
